Pelican Brewing Company has reached another major milestone on the Oregon Coast with the opening of its newest location in Yachats, Oregon. The new Pelican Brewing Yachats neighborhood pub expands the brewery’s coastal presence to six locations while introducing a smaller, more casual restaurant concept designed around easygoing visits, award-winning craft beer and Oregon Coast hospitality.

The opening arrives during a particularly significant year for Pelican Brewing Company. Founded in Pacific City in 1996, Pelican is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026. Earlier this year, the brewery announced plans for the Yachats location as its sixth coastal destination, and Pelican’s current location directory now lists Yachats alongside Pacific City, Cannon Beach, Siletz Bay, Tillamook and Rockaway Beach.

The Yachats property also carries considerable local history. Before becoming Pelican Brewing’s newest location, the building was home to LeRoy’s Blue Whale for approximately 45 years and later operated as the Whale’s Tail Diner. For Pelican co-founder and vice president Jeff Schons, the location has an additional personal connection through his family’s history in Yachats.

Pelican Brewing Yachats Brings a Neighborhood Pub Concept to the Coast

The new Pelican Brewing Yachats location represents more than another restaurant opening for Pelican Brewing Company. It is an opportunity for the brewery to bring its established combination of craft beer, food and coastal hospitality into a smaller neighborhood-focused setting.

Pelican already describes its Rockaway Beach location as its first Neighborhood Pub, featuring a smaller menu and the same general Pelican experience. The Yachats location follows that concept, offering a more relaxed footprint while maintaining the brewery’s connection to Oregon Coast communities.

For travelers heading along U.S. Highway 101, the new Pelican Brewing Yachats location also creates another opportunity to stop for Pelican beer and food while exploring the central Oregon Coast. The company’s original Pacific City brewpub remains the birthplace of Pelican and is described by the brewery as the only beachfront brewpub in the Pacific Northwest.

The Yachats neighborhood pub is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., giving locals and visitors a convenient place to settle in for lunch, dinner, drinks or a casual coastal stop.

Pelican’s expansion also continues a three-decade tradition of combining brewery operations with destination dining. Its Tillamook facility serves as the company’s production brewery and taproom, while its coastal locations provide different settings for enjoying Pelican’s beers and food.

With the Yachats opening now complete, Pelican Brewing Company enters the next chapter of its 30th anniversary year with six Oregon Coast locations and a growing network of places where fans can experience the brand’s “Born at the Beach” approach.

YACHATS, Ore. (Sept. 25, 2026) – Pelican Brewing Company has opened its newest coastal restaurant in the town of Yachats, welcoming locals and visitors to its sixth establishment on the Oregon Coast. Conveniently located along U.S. Highway 101, the neighborhood pub brings Pelican’s award-winning craft beer, food, and coastal hospitality to the central coast.  

“When we started Pelican thirty years ago, our goal was to transform food and beverage experiences into lasting memories for our guests,” said Mary Jones, Pelican Brewing Company president and co-founder. “Opening in Yachats is the result of years of hard work, intentional growth, and a deep commitment to our coastal community. We’re honored to step into this special space, earn the trust of our neighbors, and offer a welcoming spot for guests.”  

This particular property has a connection to Pelican co-founder and vice president Jeff Schons, whose mother lived in Yachats for 15 years. Schons and Jones frequently visited LeRoy’s Blue Whale, which operated at the site for 45 years before becoming the Whale’s Tail Diner, and now, Pelican Brewing Company’s newest location.  

“Having spent so much time in Yachats with friends and family over the years makes the opening here especially meaningful,” said Schons. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of this building’s next chapter and to serve more of our coastal neighbors and visitors.”  

The new restaurant opening comes as Pelican celebrates its 30th year of business. Founded in Pacific City in 1996, the brewery has invested in Oregon’s coastal towns, supporting vibrant communities and creating gathering places that celebrate the spirit of the Northwest. With the Yachats location, Pelican is introducing its “neighborhood pub” concept – a smaller footprint and a bit more casual dining experience, designed for an easy, relaxed visit.   

The neighborhood pub is open from 11am–9pm, daily.
