About Listermann Brewing:
Listermann Brewing Company, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, was a prominent craft brewery and homebrew supply store. Founded in 2008, it quickly became recognized for its award-winning beers, including “Chickow!”, “Nutcase,” and “Planetary IPA”. They were known for crafting both standard and higher-gravity brews (under their Triple Digit Brewing Company label) and also produced mead.
Listermann Brewing earned several prestigious accolades, including gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival, Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers, and the US Open Beer Cup. In 2017, they received the Brewer’s Philanthropy Award for their community involvement and partnerships with organizations like the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, where they launched “Team Fiona,” a beer to support Fiona the hippo.
Beyond their brewery operations, Listermann
housed the sole full-service homebrew store in Cincinnati, offering a wide array of ingredients, supplies, and equipment for brewing beer, wine, and cider. The store had a dedicated grain room where customers could mill their own grains.
Listermann Brewing Company was originally founded by Dan and Sue Listermann. In February 2023, they retired and sold the brewery to Terrie and Steve Ipson, who aimed to preserve the company’s legacy and continued focus on quality craft beer, the homebrew community, and strong community ties.
However, despite their established history and community contributions, Listermann Brewing Company announced via Facebook on August 15, 2025, that August 16 would be their final day of operations. No reason was given for the sudden closure. The closure of Listermann reflects a challenging period for the brewing industry in the Cincinnati area, as other local establishments have also closed recently.
