Torch & Crown Brewing Closing Soho Facility

Torch & Crown Brewing Company’s SoHo location was shut down by the NYC Marshal Nov 21st due to unpaid rent and bills totaling close to $400,000. 

Details of the Closure
Eviction: The premises were seized by the landlord, and the doors were chained shut, with a notice posted on the door.

Financial Issues: Court records show the company had been having issues making rent payments since at least the previous year.

Layoffs: In September 2024, the production team was abruptly laid off without notice or financial assistance when production at their Bronx facility stopped. 

Future of the Company
Despite the closure of the physical Manhattan brewpub, the company’s future involves a recent merger and a change in business strategy. 

Merger: Torch & Crown and Aslin Beer Co. (from the D.C./Virginia area) merged to form a new umbrella company called Driven Collective in September 2025.

New Strategy: The plan was to shift the brewing of core and seasonal beers to Aslin’s larger facility in Alexandria, Virginia, to cut costs. The SoHo location was intended to become a center for small-batch and experimental projects.

Distribution: Torch Distributing, a New York City-based operation, is part of the collective and will handle distribution in the NYC area. 

It is currently unclear how the recent eviction of the SoHo location will impact the overall plans for the Driven Collective. The company has not made an official public statement regarding the permanent closure of the SoHo location as of late November 2025.

About Torch & Crown Brewing:

Torch & Crown Brewing Company was Manhattan’s only production brewery and restaurant, located in the SoHo/Hudson Square area. It opened in October 2020, offering handcrafted beers, a full-service restaurant with comfort food, and event spaces. However, as of late November 2025, the company has officially permanently closed. 

What it was:
Location: 12 Vandam St. in Manhattan, in the commercial district between SoHo and Hudson Square.
Concept: A combined brewery and restaurant, described as having an industrial-chic vibe.
Offerings:A variety of handcrafted beers, including IPAs, pilsners, and stouts.
A scratch kitchen with comfort food and New York-centric dishes, including vegetarian and gluten-free options.
A full bar with cocktails.
Private event spaces.
Origin: Founded by friends Joe Correia and John Dantzler, who started homebrewing as teenagers after their fake IDs were confiscated.
Timeline: Opened in October 2020, with its opening delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
