The Bruery Lumen Noctis Celestial Mechanics Collaboration Imperial Stout
The Bruery Lumen Noctis Brings Celestial Mechanics Collaboration
Today I have a new astronomical collaboration beer coming from The Bruery in Placentia, California, and this one brings together two breweries with an obvious appreciation for big flavors, barrel aging and creative beer. Lumen Noctis is a new collaboration with Celestial Mechanics, the Las Vegas, Nevada brewery, and the beer builds directly on The Bruery’s iconic Black Tuesday imperial stout.
Lumen Noctis is a bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with vanilla beans, beginning with Black Tuesday before being aged in a combination of Blanton’s bourbon barrels and Jim Beam bourbon barrels. According to the label, the beer combines bourbon, chocolate, dark fruit, caramel and oak before finishing with rich brownie notes across a full-bodied palate and smooth finish.
At 15.1% ABV, The Bruery Lumen Noctis is firmly in the high-gravity imperial stout category. The beer will be packaged in 12.7-ounce bottles, making the distinctive bottle label just as important to this release as the liquid inside. The celestial artwork features a dark blue, cosmic-inspired background surrounded by orbital imagery, while the prominent LUMEN NOCTIS name reinforces the astronomical theme of the collaboration.
The back label provides additional details about the beer’s construction. It describes Lumen Noctis as a union of The Bruery’s Black Tuesday bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with Celestial Mechanics’ sweet stout, with the resulting blend aged in both Blanton’s and Jim Beam bourbon barrels. Vanilla beans are added to the finished beer, bringing together the bourbon, chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, oak and brownie characteristics described on the packaging.
The label also recommends that Lumen Noctis be stored and served at 55°F, an important detail for a beer of this strength and complexity. There are currently no release details or tasting notes beyond the information provided on the packaging, so stay tuned for additional information as this new The Bruery and Celestial Mechanics collaboration beer moves toward release.
With its Black Tuesday foundation, dual bourbon-barrel treatment, vanilla beans, 15.1% ABV and striking celestial presentation, The Bruery Lumen Noctis adds another intriguing chapter to The Bruery’s long-running history of barrel-aged imperial stout experimentation.

About The Bruery:
The Bruery is a craft brewery based in Placentia, California, known for an expansive portfolio of innovative, high-gravity and barrel-aged beers. Founded in 2008, the brewery quickly developed an identity centered on experimentation, unusual ingredients, extended barrel aging and beers that frequently push beyond conventional American craft beer styles. That approach has made The Bruery particularly well known among fans of imperial stouts, barrel-aged beers, sour ales and specialty releases.
One of the brewery’s defining beers is Black Tuesday, its massive bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. Black Tuesday originated from a difficult 2008 brew day and became one of the brewery’s signature beers following its first release in 2009. The beer has subsequently served as the foundation for numerous variants involving different barrels, adjuncts, ingredients and aging techniques.
The Black Tuesday family has included an enormous range of interpretations. Previous MyBeerBuzz coverage has documented versions involving bourbon barrels, red wine barrels, Scotch barrels, gin barrels, brandy barrels, maple syrup barrels, coffee, vanilla, fruit, nuts and other specialty ingredients. More recent 2026 releases have continued that tradition with Black Tuesday variants including Cinnamon Swirl, Brown Sugar Espresso, Apple Fritter, Strawberry Strudel, Black Tuesday Rye and Black Sails Serenade.
The Bruery’s broader portfolio extends beyond Black Tuesday. The brewery has also developed beers under related brands, including Bruery Terreux, which has focused on farmhouse and oak-aged sour beers, and Offshoot Beer Co., associated with hop-forward beers. This broader brewing family allows The Bruery to explore everything from barrel-aged imperial stouts to sour and farmhouse-inspired beers.
The brewery also has a tasting room in Placentia, which has played an important role in the release and celebration of specialty beers and limited barrel-aged projects. Black Tuesday releases in particular have historically been associated with special events and limited-release programs, helping establish a strong following for The Bruery’s barrel-aged beer program.
Lumen Noctis fits naturally into that brewing philosophy. By combining the Black Tuesday imperial stout base with Celestial Mechanics’ sweet stout, then using Blanton’s and Jim Beam bourbon barrels and finishing the beer with vanilla beans, The Bruery has created another highly specialized barrel-aged imperial stout. At 15.1% ABV and 12.7 ounces, Lumen Noctis joins The Bruery’s continuing tradition of small-format, high-gravity specialty beers built around layered malt, spirit, oak and adjunct character.
