Shiner Adding Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon & Mango Flavors
Today I bring you a first look at two new fruited beers coming soon from Shiner / Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas. The longtime Texas brewery is expanding its fruit-forward lineup with two new variations of its refreshing Shiner Sea Salt & Lime concept: Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango.
Both new Shiner beers combine the familiar combination of sea salt and lime peel with natural fruit flavors, creating two distinctly different tropical and summer-inspired variations. Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon will be brewed with sea salt, lime peel and natural watermelon flavors, while Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango will feature sea salt, lime peel and natural mango flavors.
Both beers are listed at a highly sessionable 4% ABV and the labels indicate 12-fluid-ounce cans, making these releases particularly well suited to warm-weather drinking, backyard gatherings, cookouts, beach days, poolside occasions and other casual summer celebrations.
The new Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon immediately stands out as the more quintessentially refreshing of the two. Watermelon and lime are a natural flavor combination, with the juicy sweetness of watermelon providing a contrast to the bright acidity of lime. The addition of sea salt should add another dimension, potentially helping sharpen the fruit character while keeping the overall profile crisp and refreshing.
Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango, meanwhile, takes the same basic brewing concept in a more tropical direction. Mango brings a richer, sweeter fruit character than watermelon, while lime can provide the acidic counterpoint necessary to keep a mango-forward beer from becoming overly sweet. Sea salt adds another layer to the flavor profile.
The labels specifically identify both beers as “beer brewed with sea salt & lime peel with natural flavors added.” That wording is important because these are not simply traditional Shiner lagers with fruit juice added after brewing. Instead, the beer is being presented as a flavored extension of the Shiner lineup, combining the brewery’s brewing foundation with fruit-driven flavor profiles.
At 4% ABV, the two new Shiner fruit beers should appeal to drinkers looking for something flavorful without the higher alcohol content associated with many contemporary craft beers. The relatively low ABV also makes the concept particularly appropriate for a summer seasonal or variety-pack format.
And that raises an interesting possibility.
Could Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango eventually appear together in a variety pack?
That’s certainly something worth watching.
The matching packaging, identical 4% ABV, identical 12-ounce can format and shared Sea Salt & Lime branding make the two beers look like natural partners. At this point, however, a variety-pack format has not been confirmed, so consider that speculation rather than an announced packaging plan.
The new releases also fit into Shiner’s broader strategy of expanding beyond its traditional lager portfolio. While Shiner Bock remains the brewery’s signature beer, Spoetzl has increasingly explored fruit beers, specialty lagers, seasonal releases and other flavor-driven offerings. The brewery’s current lineup includes beers such as Shiner Ruby Redbird, Shiner Prickly Pear, Shiner ¡Órale! Limón and Shiner Mango Kölsch, demonstrating that fruit-forward beer has become an important part of the Shiner portfolio.
The official Shiner lineup describes Mango Kölsch as combining the crisp character of a Kölsch with juicy mango flavor, while Ruby Redbird uses grapefruit and ginger for a tart, refreshing profile. That makes the new Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Sea Salt & Lime Mango releases logical additions to Shiner’s growing collection of approachable fruit beers.
And while the flavor combinations may be modern, the beer itself comes from one of America’s most historic brewing locations. Spoetzl Brewery has been brewing in Shiner, Texas since 1909, when German and Czech immigrants established the brewery using Old World brewing traditions.
For now, we’re still waiting for the important details: official release dates, distribution information, final packaging format and tasting notes.
But if you’re a fan of Shiner beer, Spoetzl Brewery, fruit beer, watermelon beer, mango beer, lime beer, sea salt beer, sessionable craft beer and summer seasonal releases, these are two new Shiner beers worth keeping on your radar.
Stay tuned for release details and more information as Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango get closer to hitting shelves.

About Shiner / Spoetzl Brewery:
Shiner / Spoetzl Brewery is one of the most recognizable names in Texas brewing and one of the country’s longest-running independent breweries. Located in the small South Central Texas town of Shiner, Texas, the brewery traces its history to 1909, when German and Czech immigrants established a brewery to recreate the traditional beer styles they knew from Europe. The brewery’s history is closely tied to the town itself, and Shiner continues to brew its beer in its founding community more than a century later.
The brewery originally operated as the Shiner Brewing Association before Bavarian brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl arrived in 1914. Spoetzl brought professional German brewing experience and family recipes to the operation, eventually becoming so important to the brewery’s identity that the brewery itself took his name. His influence remains central to the Shiner story more than a century later.
One of the brewery’s greatest success stories is Shiner Bock, which was first brewed in 1913. Originally a seasonal beer, Shiner Bock became such a popular Texas favorite that it was made available year-round beginning in 1973. Today, Shiner Bock remains the brewery’s signature American-style amber lager, brewed with roasted barley malt and German specialty hops.
But Shiner is no longer simply a Bock brewery. The Spoetzl portfolio has expanded dramatically, with beers ranging from traditional golden lagers and light beers to fruit beers, Mexican-style cervezas, Kölsch-inspired beers, IPAs, seasonal specialties and non-alcoholic offerings. The current portfolio includes Shiner Premium, Shiner Light, Shiner Kosmos Reserve, Shiner ¡Órale! Limón, Shiner Ruby Redbird, Shiner Prickly Pear, Shiner Black Lager, Shiner Raspberry Lemonade Shandy and Shiner Mango Kölsch, among others.
That willingness to experiment makes the arrival of Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango particularly interesting. Both beers build upon a flavor combination that already has strong appeal in warm-weather beverages: bright lime, subtle salt and fruit. The Watermelon version brings a juicy, refreshing fruit component, while the Mango version offers a sweeter tropical profile.
The brewery’s official portfolio demonstrates that fruit-forward beer is already an established part of the Shiner identity. Ruby Redbird combines grapefruit and ginger, Prickly Pear incorporates cactus fruit, Raspberry Lemonade Shandy combines raspberries and lemonade, and Mango Kölsch brings mango together with a crisp Kölsch-style beer.
Spoetzl Brewery has also expanded beyond beer. In 2023, the company added the K. Spoetzl Distillery, producing craft spirits using the brewery’s artesian water and brewing heritage. The distillery now produces spirits including vodka, gin and Shiner ‘Shine.
Visitors can also experience the brewery firsthand. The Spoetzl Brewery offers tours that take guests through the brewing operation and its history, while the Shiner campus has expanded to include the brewery, distillery, food and hospitality experiences. Current tour information lists regular brewery tours throughout the week.
Despite its expansion and growing national profile, the defining characteristic of Shiner remains its connection to its hometown. The brewery emphasizes that every drop of Shiner is brewed in Shiner, Texas, preserving the link between the beer, the brewery and the community where the story began in 1909.
That combination of Texas brewing heritage, independent ownership, traditional lager brewing and increasingly adventurous fruit and specialty beers has allowed Shiner to remain relevant to longtime fans while attracting new generations of craft beer drinkers.
The new Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Watermelon and Shiner Sea Salt & Lime Mango releases are another example of that evolution: two approachable, 4% ABV fruit beers that retain the Shiner identity while pushing the brand toward bright, tropical and highly refreshing flavor combinations. With both beers arriving in 12-ounce cans, they look perfectly positioned for casual summer drinking—and potentially as complementary selections in a future Shiner variety pack. For now, beer fans will have to wait for Spoetzl Brewery to reveal exactly when and where these two new Shiner beers will arrive.
