We brought you an early peek at these beers, back in Feb, and we rounded that peek out with the full details from Straub.  It was just a week or so ago, so I’m excited to give you an early sampling of all four beers in the

"Peter Straub Signature Brews" with Adventure Series 1 Craft Sampler.

This variety pack is the first of three that Straub will be releasing, and it is available throughout PA while supplies last.  This new series celebrates 145-years of brewing at Straub 

& “the Fiercely Independent spirit of the PA Wilds region that Straub Brewery has called home since the 1870s,” said Straub Brewery President and CEO Bill Brock.  The beer names are inspired by outdoor activities and destinations with GPS coordinates included on each bottle (be sure to check them out).

This pack includes Wild*Boy hopped lager (IPL), Tight Lines Kolsch, Boulder Bock Maibock and Ridge Top Runner Vienna lager….so off we go with the sampling.

I decided to start with Tight Lines.  This beer pays tribute to the abundant fishing opportunities in PA and it is a Kolsch-style beer that won a 2016 World Beer Cup medal.  Tight Lines had great biscuit-y aromas and a light and drinkable finish.  I can see this refreshing brew (5%-AbV, 25 IBU) being the perfect beer to add to your fishing cooler, and our pal Vince Assetta tells me the GPS coordinates on this bottle will take you to one of his favorite fishing holes.

Next up is Ridge Top Runner and it is a Vienna-style lager named for the forests and state parks in PA.  This beer had a really nice malty aroma backed up by some very drinkable and soft malty flavors.  This all-malt beer is really flavorful and well balanced with a clean and crisp finish.    Ridge Top Runner hits 5.4%-AbV and 22 IBU so be sure to pack up a sixer for your next camping trip.

Next we chose to go a little out of sequence and sample  Boulder Bock.  This Maibock is named for the mountains and scenic views available in PA and it uses a mix of German and American ingredients.  Boulder Bock pours a light pale color with a rich malty nose and sturdy body.  The flavors of this beer are decidedly bready with a pleasant and well-balanced hop finish.  Boulder Bock will sneak up on you at 6.9%-AbV and a surprisingly hoppy 35 IBU.

We finished with the new Hoppy*Boy IPL and this beer is named for the Wild Boy Run stream and back roads in PA.  This hoppy lager uses traditional IPA malts, American hops and the “Straub cold-conditioned lager brewing legacy.”  We really enjoyed the citrusy, floral and biscuit-y aromas and we really liked the citrus, grassy and slightly spicy flavors.  I love a grapefruit finish and Hoppy*Boy didn’t disappoint…and at 5.6%-AbV and a hoppy 63 IBU any hop-head will find this beer satisfying and enjoyable.

Adventure Series 2 will feature a Dunkel, Helles, Hefeweizen, and Oktoberfest and it  will be released in late summer/early fall to coincide with Oktoberfest celebrations, and Adventure Series 3 will feature a Dobbelbock, Pilsner, Altbier, and 1872 Lager and it will be released in late fall/early winter in time for the holiday season.
