Today we get an early peek at a new Goose Island Beer Hug coming from Goose Island Beer Co. in Chicago, Illinois, and this one looks ready to bring a serious citrus punch to the brewery’s growing lineup of high-ABV, flavor-forward IPAs.

Meet Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA, a new Imperial India Pale Ale with natural flavors that checks in at a formidable 11% ABV. The new Goose Island IPA will be packaged in a 19.2-ounce single-serve can, continuing the Beer Hug family’s presence in the large-format can category.

The label identifies the beer as an Imperial India Pale Ale with natural flavors and specifically notes that it contains wheat. The front of the package prominently identifies the beer as Tangerine IPA, making the citrus-forward character a central part of the new release.

Goose Island Citrus Beer Hug Blast

The name alone gives beer drinkers plenty of clues about what Goose Island is aiming for with this new release. “Citrus,” “Blast,” “Tangerine” and “Beer Hug” all point toward an IPA designed around an intense, fruit-forward experience.

At 11% ABV, Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA is considerably bigger than a typical American IPA. This is firmly in Imperial IPA territory, and the substantial alcohol content puts it alongside the bigger beers that have helped establish the Beer Hug family as an important part of Goose Island’s modern portfolio.

The addition of natural tangerine flavor should give this Imperial IPA a distinctly citrus-oriented identity. While we will have to wait for the finished beer before providing tasting notes, the label makes it clear that tangerine is the star of this particular Beer Hug.

And if the recent growth of the Beer Hug family is any indication, Goose Island has plenty of reason to continue expanding the lineup.

A Bigger Beer Hug for 2026

Goose Island’s Beer Hug family has become an increasingly visible part of the brewery’s IPA portfolio. Previous releases have included Tropical Beer Hug, Big Juicy Beer Hug, Big Mango Beer Hug and Big Hazy Pineapple Beer Hug, with the brand family emphasizing fruit-forward flavors, high ABV and convenient single-serve packaging.

MyBeerBuzz has already followed several of those releases, including Big Mango Beer Hug, which was reviewed at 9.9% ABV, and Big Hazy Pineapple Beer Hug, another Imperial IPA that arrived in 19.2-ounce cans.

That makes Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA a logical next step for Goose Island. Rather than simply adding another standard IPA, the brewery is continuing to explore bold fruit flavors within the Imperial IPA category.

The 19.2-ounce can is also becoming something of a signature format for the Beer Hug family. MyBeerBuzz previously reported that several Beer Hug offerings ranked among the leading share-gaining 19.2-ounce IPAs nationally.

11% ABV Tangerine IPA

The headline statistic here is undoubtedly 11% ABV.

That makes Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA one of the bigger beers in the Beer Hug family and a substantial Imperial IPA by any measure. The natural tangerine component should provide an important counterpoint to the beer’s considerable strength, potentially creating the sweet, bright and citrus-heavy character that fans of fruit-forward IPAs seek.

For now, though, the beer’s release date, distribution details and official tasting notes remain forthcoming. This is an early look based on the packaging, so we’ll have more to say once the beer officially arrives and tasting information becomes available.

The new Goose Island Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA is shaping up to be another major addition to the brewery’s expanding Beer Hug lineup, and at 11% ABV in a 19.2-ounce can, this is definitely a Beer Hug with some muscle behind it.

Goose Island Beer Co. is one of the most recognizable names in American craft beer, with deep roots in Chicago, Illinois, and a brewing history that stretches back to 1988. Founded by John Hall, Goose Island began with a simple idea inspired by European beer culture: bring the quality, variety and character of great European beer styles to Chicago.

That vision helped Goose Island become one of the breweries associated with the development of Chicago’s modern craft beer scene. The brewery eventually expanded its production capabilities and developed a diverse portfolio ranging from approachable lagers and ales to highly acclaimed barrel-aged beers and aggressively hopped IPAs.

Today, Goose Island beer is especially well known for several major brands and beer families, including Goose Island IPA, Bourbon County Brand Stout and Beer Hug. The brewery’s portfolio demonstrates its ability to move between traditional brewing, barrel aging, American-style IPA and modern flavor-driven beer.

The Beer Hug IPA family has become one of Goose Island’s most important contemporary brands. Launched in 2022, Beer Hug has expanded through a series of Imperial IPAs featuring fruit-forward and highly expressive profiles. Recent members have included Tropical Beer Hug, Big Juicy Beer Hug, Big Mango Beer Hug and Big Hazy Pineapple Beer Hug. MyBeerBuzz reported in late 2025 that the Beer Hug family was a major driver of Goose Island’s growth, with the family up substantially year over year.

The brewery continued that momentum into 2026 with additional Beer Hug releases. Big Hazy Pineapple Beer Hug, for example, arrived as a 9.9% ABV Imperial Hazy IPA with pineapple-forward character and was offered in both 19.2-ounce single-serve cans and 12-ounce six-packs.

Goose Island’s influence extends far beyond its IPA portfolio. The brewery is also famous for Bourbon County Brand Stout, one of the most influential barrel-aged beer programs in American brewing. Goose Island traces its barrel-aged beer history to 1992, when the brewery created a bourbon barrel-aged stout that helped establish an entirely new category within American craft beer.

In 2011, Goose Island was acquired by Anheuser-Busch, giving the Chicago brewery access to a significantly larger distribution and production network while retaining Goose Island as a distinct beer brand. The brewery continues to produce beer for Chicago, the United States and international markets.

Goose Island’s Chicago identity remains an important part of the brand. Its brewing history, experimentation and willingness to embrace both traditional and modern beer styles have made it a significant player in the American beer industry.

For craft beer enthusiasts, Goose Island Chicago is particularly interesting because the brewery continues to balance established classics with new releases. The Beer Hug family is an excellent example of that approach: recognizable enough to build on an established brand while allowing Goose Island brewers to experiment with new fruit flavors, hop profiles, alcohol levels and packaging formats.

The arrival of Citrus Beer Hug Blast Tangerine IPA continues that evolution. At 11% ABV, with natural flavors, wheat and a prominent tangerine identity, the new Imperial IPA represents the bigger, bolder side of Goose Island brewing.

As Goose Island continues developing its 2026 beer lineup, Beer Hug appears positioned to remain one of the brewery’s most important contemporary brands. For fans of Goose Island IPA, Imperial IPA, fruit-forward IPA, Tangerine IPA, high-ABV beer and 19.2-ounce craft beer cans, Citrus Beer Hug Blast is a release worth watching as it moves toward market.
