Wasatch Brewery Wins Medal at 2016 Great American Beer Festival

Salt Lake City, UT  – (October 10, 2016) – Utah’s pioneer craft brewer Wasatch Brewery competed at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver this past weekend and returned to Utah with a Bronze medal for their Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen in the Fruit Wheat Beer category.

Celebrating its 30^th year, GABF 2016 awarded 286 medals out of a record-breaking total of 7,227 competition entries, awarding medals to breweries in 96 beer categories, judged by a panel of 264 experts from 12 different countries.

Says Director of Brewing Operations Jon Lee “Historically, Great American Beer Festival medals have always been fantastic to receive, but in this day and age, with so many entries, a single medal is a tremendous honor that recognizes the hard work of our brewers and the delicious beers that they produce.  And this year’s medal was especially gratifying as we were the only Utah brewery to receive an award.”

This is the 6^th medal for Wasatch Apricot Hefeweizen.  Adds Lee “The fact that our Apricot Hefeweizen won again speaks to the rising popularity of fruit beers.  In our own brand portfolio, Apricot is the most popular beer that we sell.  This award shows that Utah beers can compete on a national and world-wide stage, and we are looking forward to hanging another medal on the wall!”
