Twisted Pine’s Blind Beers Returns 5/12

Boulder, Colorado – May 5^th 2015 – Twisted Pine Brewing Company and The Unseen Bean have scheduled another installment of their Beer and Bites Blind Pairing as the centerpiece of the Boulder brewery’s American Craft Beer Week calendar. The May 12^th event will take blindfolded participants through a five course pairing of Twisted Pine beers with various small bite plates, guided by master roaster Gerry Leary.

To Leary’s knowledge he is the only blind coffee roaster in the world and takes great pride in that distinction… a pride that has been recognized by many accolades throughout Boulder County and beyond since he started The Unseen Bean in 2003. And luckily for Twisted Pine, he loves a good beer almost as much as a good cup of coffee.  The two joined forces in 2009 when Leary started roasting the Peruvian beans used in the brewery’s Big Shot Espresso Stout, which has since come to be Twisted Pine’s most award-winning beer.

That relationship spawned the blind beers idea a couple years ago – an idea that has grown into one of the brewery’s favorite educational tools. Leary describes the blindfolded tasting as a way for participants to “get to the taste without any expectations from the visual,” adding that the event offers tasters “a chance to use their imagination in trying to define what a beer looks like without seeing it.”

Twisted Pine’s Sales and Marketing Coordinator, Justin Tilotta, describes the exercise as “a great way to expand a beer drinker’s mind and palate.”

“Everywhere I go, somebody is always telling me how they don’t like dark beer or they can’t drink hoppy beer,” Tilotta explains, “but time and time again we’ve seen those people choose a stout or an IPA as their favorite and love the look of disbelief on their face when the blindfold comes off.”

The tasting will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, May 12^th at the Twisted Pine Ale House in Boulder. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the brewery or online at twistedpinebrewing.com/shop.
