Samuel Adams – Harvest Saison, Harvest Pumpkin, Fat Jack & Oktoberfest 2014 – A First Taste

It’s not very often that I get to sample 4 different Samuel Adams beers in one day…so I have to thank our pal Jim Koch from  Samuel Adams for the great FALL care package that arrived today

I couldn’t resist,  so Mrs. BeerBuzz and I chilled them all and set out to sampling.

   Our care package included Samuel Adams Harvest Saison, Harvest Pumpkin, Fat Jack Double Pumpkin, and of course Samuel Adams Octoberfest cans & bottle….so lets go…

We sampled the classic Samuel Adams Octoberfest first and there was no doubt we had to fill up the Samuel Adams “Raise The Stein” and hoist it up before ANYTHING else.  For 2014, Samuel Adams Octoberfest tastes great…lots of malt…lots of hop and this Marzen-style beer tastes even better in the Samuel Adams mug.  Don’t forget the Sam Can…and don’t forget how cool it is to taste directly from the can !

if that wasn’t fun enough, we rolled out Fat Jack Double Pumpkin ale and between three of us, the 22oz bottle didn’t last long.  This beer uses 28 lbs per batch, and it’s loaded with cinnamon, nutmeg and even allspice..and yes it comes in at 8.5% of delicious fall fun too. 

As a compliment to Fat Jack, we next loaded up Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin.  This 5.7% ABV beer uses Samuel Adams 2-row pale malt blend, Caramel 60, Special B and smoked malt…and yes it used real pumpkins

To finish up the night we sampled Samuel Adams Harvest Saison.  This beer is distinctly different from anything we sampled….but when I say “distinctly” I mean distinctly-good!  Samuel Adams Harvest Saison is so different that almost any other Sam beer I tasted, so it’s really unique. 

This beer uses Belgian yeast with Aramis and Saaz hops and it comes in fairly big at 6% ABV and a sweet 25 IBU.  The mouthfeel is light and the finish is loaded with spices and cloves.
