Ruckus Brewing Wins Contract to Convert Allentown’s Neuweiler Brewery To Brewer’s Hill

We followed along as Neuweiler Brewery in Allentown almost became a movie studio and brewpub, but now we’re hearing the plans may have firmed up…and those plans look to be creating a new home for Ruckus Brewing. This from The Morning Call:
New York City-based Ruckus Brewing would like to put the beer back in the old Neuweiler Brewery in Allentown.
The company announced Wednesday that it had won the right to try to convert the run-down property into a multipurpose development it would call Brewer’s Hill.
The centerpiece of the roughly $25 million project would be a brewery that would produce Ruckus’ line of microbrews and other craft beers on a contract basis, said Josh Wood, a Lehigh University graduate and co-owner of Ruckus.
That includes a brew pub or customer "experience center" that would showcase "vintage elements that emphasize the heritage of Neuweiler Brewery and its historic presence." The rest of the property would be developed into a combination of retail, office and other commercial uses, he said.
The old brewery on Front Street is in the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone, a one-of-a-kind tax zone that allows developers to use future state and city taxes generated by businesses on the property to help finance redevelopment.
