Ninkasi – Let There Be Lagers Year-Round

One of these very exciting things is that for the first time ever, Ninkasi is going to brew a lager all year-long!

It’s not that we haven’t liked brewing lagers in the past. The situation is actually quite the opposite of that. Our brewers absolutely love to make lagers, and we absolutely love to drink the lagers that our brewers make because they’re absolutely delicious.

And we’re clearly not the only ones who think so: one of our lagers, the Bohemian Pilsner,just won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival!

So, if we love brewing lagers so much AND we love drinking lagers so much, why haven’t we been brewing tons of lagers all along, you ask?

Great question!

The main reason we have not been filling our tanks with lager after lager, is because lagers take a lot longer to ferment than ales do. To give you an idea of how much longer: ales generally take about 2 weeks to ferment, while lagers take more like 7 to 9 weeks to age. Which is a BIG difference when you’re pretty close to brewing at full capacity (which we very much are), so we just haven’t had the space to commit to many lagers!

But next year, when we triple our brewing capacity, that will all change!

We will be able to use our new 80-barrel system, in addition to our 55-barrel system to brew more and more lagers. We’ll kick off all of the lager fun by expanding our Prismatic Series (which includes favorites like Oktoberfest and Helles Belles), starting with the release of our Bohemian Pilsner, which will be bottled and kegged as Pravda in January!
