Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Tröegs Hopora IPA (Review)

It should be no surprise to anyone reading mybeerbuzz.com, that I’m a huge fan of the Tröegs Hop Cycle Series. If you check my beer ‘fridge today or pretty much any day of the year, you’ll find a Tröegs beer…most likely from the Hop Cycle Series. I’d also be willing to bet that 1 out of every 100 bottles of Field Study brewed, went in my belly (just kidding…maybe 1 out of 200).

With that said, I was excited to get a care package from Tröegs with a new member of the Hop Cycle Family….Hopora. I knew when I first saw the packaging in early 2023, that I likely had a new go-to beer coming and I was right. Hopora is brewed with pale malt, oats and wheat, as well as a hop I wasn’t very familiar with called Solero. Add in Chinook an Citra hops and you have the recipe for a new hoppy favorite.

As our pal John Trogner puts it, “I like to think Hopora captures the best of both IPA worlds – West Coast and hazy,” says Tröegs brewmaster and co-founding brother John Trogner. “It’s got just the right amount of bitterness that rolls into tropical aromas with notes of mango and passionfruit. Plus, it’s super tasty and the name is fun to say… HOPORA!!!”

Naturally I can’t wait to try it…so off we go…

Tröegs Hop Cycle Hopora

Brewery Description: Hopora is a tribute to the hop spirit for a bountiful crop. Built on pale malt, oats and wheat, this IPA showcases Solero hops. Appearance:  Slightly hazy gold
Aroma:  Grapefruit, citrus & mild pine
Mouthfeel:  Medium & crisp
Taste:   Fresh grapefruit, resinous spruce & tropical fruits
Overall:  Hopora leans nicely into what I’d call a slightly Northeast hazy IPA with a resinous finish. I love a hoppy beer that leads with grapefruit, but Hopora is much more. Overall I’d say John Trogner is spot on with his description and I really enjoyed the blending of styles with a sort of Field Study meets Blizzard Of Hops IPA.
