Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Straub 2016 Legacy Sampler

Just a few days ago we released the news of the Straub 2016 Legacy Sampler pack….so it’s exciting to give you an early peek (and sampling) of all four beers.

According to Straub Brewery president & CEO Bill Brock, this variety pack  combines “all this is good about craft beer with the deep traditions and heritage of Straub Brewery.”  The pack is also the perfect compliment for the change of seasons with warmer days and cooler night.  For 2016, the Legacy Sample includes

1872 Lager, Helles, Dunkel, and Doppelbock and these beers will give you the ability to compare and contrast some classic beer styles all from the same pack.

If that’s not enough fun, Straub has included food pairings for each beer AND recipes (see below) that use each beer as one of the ingredients….so off we go.

1872 Lager was inspired by brewery founder Peter Straub and it is a pre-prohibition-style lager.  The aroma is rich and slightly spicy and the taste follows with some malty notes and a floral hop finish.  The finish is crisp and clean and Straub recommends you sample it after a long Saturday afternoon and pair it with pizza, cheesy party dips and even holiday hams & turkeys.

Up next we sampled Straub Helles.  This beer pays tribute to traditional German Helles beers pouring with a golden straw-colored look and a white and foamy head.  Helles has a floral aroma with a clean and slightly earthy-spicy finish.  Straub recommends sampling Helles while spending time with friends watching the game and pair it with fish, pasta dishes or sweet deserts.

For our third beer, we sampled Straub Dunkel.  This beer has a slightly heavier body and this classic dark lager has wonderful biscuity and roasty malt flavors with a slightly sweet middle.  Dunkel finishes with a floral hop presence and Straub recommends you enjoy Dunkel after work at your local pub and you pair it with Sauerkraut, German potato salad or bratwurst.

Finally we sampled Straub Doppelbock and this beer is a textbook version of a classic winter bock beer.  Sweet, malty, rich and just slightly roasty, this beer checks all of the bock-boxes and finishes with sweet caramel and toffee flavors.  Straub recommends you enjoy Doppelbock after dinner and in front of the fire, and pair it with chocolate candy, sweet potatoes or peanut brittle.

For recipe suggestions, Straub created German Potato Salad with Straub Dunkel, Autumn Apple Salsa with Straub Helles, Brown Sugar Glaze with Straub 1872 and Roasted Veggies with Straub Doppelbock.
