Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Short’s Freedom of ‘78 Half Acre Collaboration

First brewed in 2010, today’s beer eluded me in it’s first releases…but not this time.  Today we’re sampling an exciting beer returning from Short’s and Half Acre.  Named Freedom of ‘78, this beer is an IPA brewed with guava, but not just any guava; pink guava!

I’m happy to report Freedom of ‘78 will return and it will be available in PA, MI, OH, IN and WI in six-packs of 12oz bottles and kegs….so how does it taste?

As son as you pour this beer you’ll know you’re dealing with a fruit-forward IPA, but not just any old fruit-forward IPA.  Freedom pours a bright bronze color with a surprising big (and really good) guava aroma.  I initially tasted grapefruit, but the punch of pink guava really added some depth and complexity that I really liked.  There’s some resinous pine in the late aromas and late flavors and the beer really felt (and tasted) like a double IPA to me.  The mouthfeel is very drinkable and as the beer warmed, we tasted subtle orange and sweet dull honey as well.  This is a tasty beer.

Freedom of ‘78 hits 8%-AbV much like a DIPA and it will get your attention with the sticky and resinous 70 IBU; and yes…overall we really enjoyed this beer.
