I consider myself to be a bit fussy and very particular where shoes are concerned, and whether that’s a running shoe, a hiking boot or every day boots, I consider myself a good judge of shoes. Add in that I have flat feet, and you’ll find that I’ve tried on (and reviewed) my fair share of shoes.

Today I’m excited to try out a new pair of shoes from Georgia Boot. The boot is called the Giant Revamp Romeo boot and while it is new to me, I think you’ll find that it has quite a bit of history. As Georgia Boot puts it, “The Georgia Romeo boot celebrates 25 years of keeping the hardest working people comfortable. In the early 1900s, the Romeo became the most popular after-work slip-on shoes that then, and now, have become a staple for loggers, factory workers, fishermen, coal miners and many other professions. Romeos have always been the boots workers put on their feet to rest after a hard day’s work, and have become increasingly popular in the Pacific Northwest with the logging community, with the Georgia Boot brand selling nearly 2.5 million units in the last 25 years. What started as an after work comfort shoe has become a legend for workers across the country, with people now wearing them to go to Church, and to outfit wedding parties.”

As part of the 25th Anniversary of the Romeo boot, Georgia Boot was kind enough to send a pair for me to test-drive. I should mention up front that this boot looks great and just in my first peek, the boot looks really durable as well. The leather looks rugged and the stitching and sole look equally sturdy. This is because the Romeo uses SPR leather, making these boots safe from chemicals (SPR™ leather offers protection against and resists caustic alkali, sulfuric acid, calcium hydroxide, potassium phosphate and caustic potash) and what Georgia Boot calls “barnyard proof.” The boots are also built nail-free to protect against electrical shock (Footwear is built with nail-free construction to help insulate you from the ground to slow down conduction, but is not intended to be primary protection against electric shock. Leather footwear must be dry. Our electrical hazard boots meet and exceed ASTM electrical hazard standards.)

Of course I can’t wait to try them, so off we go…

Right out of the box the Romeo Boots are easy to slip on and off and surprisingly comfortable considering the heavy duty nature of the leather. The boots weigh 1-pound each and the heel height is 1.5-inches. The boots run really true to size, and they fit me comfortably with almost no break-in period. The dual pull tabs make the boots easy to put on and take off and the AMP insole makes them really soft and cushioning under your feet.

I tested these boots by washing the car on a slippery garage floor and by mucking about in my garden. First off, the slip-resistant sole is no joke. My garage floor has a really slipper-when-wet epoxy floor and the Romeo boots didn’t slip a bit. The three-inch height was perfect for the wet car washing environment, and even though they do not tout that they are waterproof, my feet remained dry for the whole car wash (thanks in part to the generous 3-inch height).

In the garden, the Romeo boots were equally comfortable and tough. The sole gripped the ground well in muddy conditions, they were comfortable throughout the multiple standing / squatting movements while I pulled weeds; and they even rinsed off nicely when I was done for the day. In the end, after multiple hours washing a car and working in a muddy environment, the boots cleaned up nicely enough to wear them out to dinner a few nights later.

As of today, I’ve used these boots for just over a week and they have now become my go-to boot for everything from going to work, to running out for the mail and everything in between. After a week or so of daily wear, the boots are even more broken-in and the leather is even softer. Based on my experience, I’d say these boots will last a LONG time but I will update that if anything changes.

Overall I’d say the Georgia Boot Giant Revamp Romeo is a really comfortable, supportive and safe boot, and whether you’re wearing it to your desk job or you’re a professional farmer, these boots will quickly become your favorites. The boots look professional and sturdy, the sole is very slip-resistant, and let’s face it, they’re simply comfortable.
