Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Douglas Lagered Beer (Review)

Just last month I brought you news of a new lager coming out of the pacific northwest. The beer is called Douglas Lagered Beer and I’m excited to follow up with a sampling today. If you’re not familiar, this beer was created by brewers Chris Smith and John Marti and it was actually funded by a Kickstarter campaign.

As Chris & John Put it: “The PNW has a long and rich heritage of creating great beers, but what has been missing is a locally produced, macro-style lager,” said Chris Smith, CEO at Douglas Lager. “Our new Douglas Lager recalls a time when beer was simple and delicious, and when everyday lagers were brewed here. We want to bring that tradition back. So, we created a Kickstarter campaign for the community to help us launch Douglas Lager and bring it to even more bars and restaurants.”

“So far we’ve created the identity, landed a distributor, and are on the home stretch to get this beer into the greater Cascadia marketplace,” said John Marti, Head Brewer at Douglas Lager. “We just need your help making the last push to cross the finish line. Our hope is that once people taste Douglas Lager, they will make the switch from other established macro beers.”

Of course I can’t wait to try it, so off we go.

Douglas Lagered Beer

Brewery Description:  At Douglas, we believe the Northwest should have a macro-style lager that’s made right here, like there used to be. Douglas is a return to the classic, crisp, easy-drinking beer that tastes just like it should, and is made by locals, for locals, and for anyone enjoying our part of the world. Weatherproof lager brewed and bottled in the Pacific Northwest using Washington barley and Oregon hops.

Style:  Macro-style lager
Packaging:  12oz bottles
Appearance:  Light straw
Aroma:  Biscuit, herbal & mild spices
Mouthfeel:   Light
Taste:   Biscuit malt with herbal and mild floral notes
Overall:  I’m not a huge lager consumer, so while I may not be the best judge, I found Douglas Lagered Beer to be crisp, clean and really drinkable. The beer has a nice lighter balance and the 12oz brown bottles look historic and classic with green foiled labels. Overall I think this beer will have a lot of appeal to craft and non-draft drinkers so be sure to head over to the Kickstarter campaign to help the guys make more.
