About Monster Brewing:
Monster Brewing Company is the alcoholic beverage arm of the larger Monster Beverage Corporation, known primarily for Monster Energy drinks. Formerly named the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, the company was acquired by Monster Beverage in 2022 to leverage existing brewing infrastructure for new alcoholic products.
Overview
Parent Company: Monster Beverage Corporation.
Focus: The company has a dual focus: producing traditional craft beers from its portfolio of acquired breweries and developing new flavored malt beverages (FMBs) and hard teas under the Monster brand.
Acquisition & Rebrand: Monster Beverage acquired CANarchy in February 2022 for $330 million. In early 2024, CANarchy was officially rebranded as Monster Brewing Company to better align with the parent company’s brand and new product focus.
Product Portfolio
Monster Brewing’s product lineup includes a mix of established craft beers and newer alcoholic offerings:
Craft Beers: The company manages several well-known regional craft breweries, including:Oskar Blues Brewery (known for Dale’s Pale Ale®)
Cigar City Brewing (known for Jai Alai® IPA)
Deep Ellum Brewing Company (known for Dallas Blonde®)
Perrin Brewing Company
Squatters Craft Beers and Wasatch Brewery (though local production in Utah ceased in April 2025, the brands continue to be produced at other facilities).
Monster-branded Alcoholic Beverages: These products are inspired by the original energy drink flavors but are brewed to 6% ABV and do not contain caffeine. The Beast Unleashed™: Flavored malt beverages available in flavors like Mean Green, White Haze, and Peach Perfect.
Nasty Beast™ Hard Tea: A hard iced tea variant.
Market Performance and Industry Perception
Monster’s entry into the alcohol sector has been a significant shift, though not without challenges. The company’s The Beast Unleashed was the top-selling new beer brand in 2023, leveraging the strong Monster brand identity. However, the alcoholic beverage segment has faced some financial struggles and sales declines, leading to strategic changes like the closure of the Salt Lake City brewery in 2025.
The move has also sparked debate within the craft beer community about what constitutes a “craft brewery” after acquisition by a major corporation, a point of contention for some enthusiasts.
