Modern Times Adds 2.5 New Beers

Lotsa exciting stuff here, folks, because there’s nothing more exciting than rad new beers! First, let’s start with City of the Sun, our 7.6% ABV IPA loaded with Mosaic, Motueka, and Experimental Hop 05256.

This beer was tasty as hell the first two times we brewed it, but the third time really did turn out to be the proverbial charm. We used the freshie freshie gnar gnar 2014 crop year hops (new hops generally become available in the winter, so these hops are only about a month old), and we let the beer sit on its massive dry hop load 50% longer. 

The results are punchy as hell & exceptionally delicious. Bottles of City of the Sun IPA will be available throughout SoCal, the Central Coast, & Maui this month. They’ll go on-sale at both of our tasting rooms this Thursday at $6.99 a pop. We’ll also have the new batch on-tap for your sampling pleasure.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! We’ve got a couple of new draft-only beers for the tasting rooms that are destined to destroy. Universal Friend is our series of wine grape-infused saisons that is now in its third (there it is again) iteration, and man, is this version ever crazy/awesome. After having great success with Pinot Grigio & Chardonnay versions, we decided to take a stab at red wine grapes, with the result being

Universal Friend: Merlot Edition.
Fermented with our house Lomaland Yeast Blend, this alarmingly purple beer is dry, fruity, complex, & stunningly gorgeous. It’s available at both of our tasting rooms in pints, 7oz pours, & growler fills starting tomorrow. Saison geeks will not want to miss this one.

And for our last trick, we bring you Devil’s Teeth, a 10% ABV hybrid of a Baltic Porter and an Old Ale. Unlike virtually all of our other beers, Devil’s Teeth is a touch on the sweet side, with a very chocolatey aroma & flavor and an extremely full body. Most of this batch will be heading into Mezcal & Brandy barrels for a future special release, but we will be tapping some as-is later this week (probably Friday). Look for a single origin coffee version and a cocoa nib & vanilla version in the not too distant future.
