Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider Brings Big Flavor to Houston

There is a new cider coming from Saint Arnold Brewing Company in Houston, Texas, and this one takes the brewery’s cider program in a decidedly fruit-forward direction. The new Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider combines hard apple cider with natural watermelon flavor to create a big, sweet and juicy seasonal-style offering. According to the label, this Imperial Watermelon Cider checks in at a substantial 8.2% ABV and is packaged in 19.2-ounce cans, giving the new release plenty of presence both on the shelf and in the glass.

The new Saint Arnold cider is not simply a watermelon-flavored beverage. The label identifies it specifically as an Imperial Watermelon Cider, while describing the profile with the phrase “BIG • SWEET & JUICY.” The combination suggests that watermelon is intended to play a prominent role while the underlying hard apple cider provides the foundation. Saint Arnold’s current Beer Garden menu describes the Imperial Watermelon Cider as bringing together bright apple and pear aromas and flavors with the refreshing character of watermelon. It is also listed at 8.2% ABV and gluten free.

A Bigger Saint Arnold Cider

At 8.2% ABV, the Imperial Watermelon Cider occupies a considerably stronger position than Saint Arnold’s core Dry Cider, which is listed at 5.7% ABV. The brewery’s Dry Cider features bright apple character along with pear, citrus and melon notes, while the new Imperial Watermelon Cider pushes the fruit component in a much more specific direction with natural watermelon flavor.

The new release also demonstrates how Saint Arnold has continued developing its cider program alongside its extensive beer portfolio. The brewery has produced several cider varieties, including Dry Cider, Strawberry Kiwi Cider, Pineapple Cider and Imperial Rocket Pop Cider. Its current cider lineup shows a willingness to explore different fruit combinations while maintaining a recognizable apple-cider foundation.

For drinkers who enjoy fruit-forward cider, the Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider should be an especially interesting release. Watermelon can bring a refreshing, naturally summery impression to a beverage, and the combination with apple and pear creates a broader fruit profile. The brewery’s description of the cider as “Big, Sweet & Juicy” makes the intended personality of the release particularly clear.

8.2% ABV and 19.2-Ounce Cans

The packaging is another important part of the new release. The label identifies the product as a 19.2-ounce can, a larger single-serve format that has become increasingly common for specialty and higher-alcohol beverages. At 8.2% ABV, the Imperial Watermelon Cider also lands firmly in the imperial-strength cider category.

The label states that the cider is made with hard apple cider, water, malic acid, sulfites to preserve freshness, natural flavor and yeast. It also prominently identifies the cider as gluten free. These details give consumers a clearer picture of the construction of the beverage while reinforcing that this is a cider rather than one of Saint Arnold’s traditional beer releases.

Saint Arnold has already demonstrated experience producing higher-strength flavored ciders. Its Imperial Rocket Pop Cider, for example, is also 8.2% ABV and combines apple and pear flavors with cherry, lime and blue raspberry. The Imperial Watermelon Cider takes that general approach in another direction, focusing instead on the unmistakable flavor and aroma of watermelon.

More Information Coming Soon

The exact release schedule and distribution details for the new Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider have not yet been announced. However, the appearance of the finished packaging provides an early look at what is coming from the Houston brewery.

With 8.2% ABV, natural watermelon flavor, a gluten-free designation and 19.2-ounce cans, Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider is shaping up to be an eye-catching addition to the brewery’s growing cider lineup. The “BIG • SWEET & JUICY” description certainly sets expectations for a bold fruit-forward experience.

About Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Saint Arnold Brewing Company is a Houston, Texas institution and the oldest craft brewery in Texas, with a history dating back to 1994. Founded by Brock Wagner and Kevin Bartol, the brewery began with a mission to brew world-class beer and establish an independent brewing institution in Houston. Saint Arnold shipped its first keg of beer on June 9, 1994, beginning a journey that would help shape the modern Texas craft beer industry.

The brewery was created at a time when Houston did not have a microbrewery, and its founders saw an opportunity to establish a local brewery focused on flavorful, carefully crafted beer. Today, Saint Arnold produces a diverse collection of year-round beers, seasonal releases, special-release beers and single-batch creations. The brewery says its beers are distributed throughout Texas and Louisiana, giving Saint Arnold a substantial regional presence.

Saint Arnold’s beer portfolio includes some of the most recognizable craft beer names associated with Texas. Beers such as Lawnmower, Art Car IPA, Amber Ale, Grand Prize and Pumpkinator represent different portions of the brewery’s broad brewing philosophy. Grand Prize, for example, is a classic American lager inspired by a historic Houston beer, while Pumpkinator has become one of the brewery’s signature high-profile seasonal releases.

The brewery’s commitment to experimentation extends beyond beer. Saint Arnold has developed an increasingly interesting cider program, giving drinkers alternatives to its traditional beer lineup. The brewery’s cider offerings include Dry Cider, Strawberry Kiwi Cider, Pineapple Cider, Imperial Rocket Pop Cider and Imperial Watermelon Cider.

Saint Arnold’s cider program began with the development of its Dry Cider. The brewery explains that its research and development team spent months creating more than 100 test batches while experimenting with different apple blends, yeast and sweeteners. The final Dry Cider recipe uses a proprietary blend of Pacific Northwest apples and Saint Arnold’s house brewers yeast.

That experience created a foundation for the brewery to experiment with increasingly distinctive cider flavors. Imperial Rocket Pop Cider combines apple and pear character with cherry, lime and blue raspberry, while Imperial Watermelon Cider brings together bright apple and pear character with watermelon. Both imperial ciders reach 8.2% ABV, demonstrating Saint Arnold’s interest in producing stronger fruit-forward cider alongside its traditional beers.

Saint Arnold’s Houston home is also an important part of its identity. The brewery operates its Beer Garden & Restaurant at 2000 Lyons Avenue in Houston, where visitors can enjoy Saint Arnold beers, ciders and food. The brewery offers free public tours on select days and maintains a beer garden and restaurant that has become an important part of its connection with the local community.

The brewery’s history is closely connected to the growth of craft brewing in Texas. Saint Arnold has remained independently operated while developing a broad portfolio that ranges from traditional lagers and Kölsch-style beers to hop-forward IPAs, imperial stouts, pumpkin ales, barrel-aged specialties and fruit-forward ciders. Its willingness to move between styles has helped keep the brewery relevant to multiple generations of craft beer drinkers.

The new Saint Arnold Imperial Watermelon Cider fits naturally into that tradition of experimentation. It takes the familiar foundation of hard apple cider and adds natural watermelon flavor, then increases the strength to 8.2% ABV. The result is a cider designed around the simple promise printed directly on the can: Big, Sweet & Juicy.

As Saint Arnold continues expanding its cider selection alongside its established beer portfolio, releases such as Imperial Watermelon Cider demonstrate that the brewery’s creativity is not limited to hops and malt. From its original Dry Cider to bold imperial fruit ciders, Saint Arnold continues to give Texas craft beverage fans new ways to experience one of Houston’s most enduring independent breweries.
