From the heart of Decorah, Iowa, Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. is preparing to roll out a beautifully unexpected seasonal offering that leans into the brewery’s growing mastery of lager craft. Today we’re taking a closer look at Spiced Dark Lager, a toasty, richly layered, cold‑fermented beer that brings a fresh twist to the brewery’s seasonal lineup. And yes, despite its deep color and warming character, this one is absolutely a lager, not an ale.

Spiced Dark Lager pours with a rich amber hue, a color that immediately signals the malt‑forward depth waiting in the glass. According to the label, this beer is designed to deliver warm notes to your senses with just a kiss of baking spices, creating a balanced interplay between roasted malt character and subtle spice complexity. Rather than leaning into heavy sweetness or aggressive spice, Toppling Goliath aims for a clean, crisp lager finish that keeps the beer refreshing, drinkable, and firmly rooted in traditional lager craftsmanship.

At 4.5% ABV, this release stays firmly in the sessionable zone, making it an ideal cold‑weather companion for drinkers who want depth and flavor without the weight of a high‑gravity winter ale. The brewery emphasizes that the beer is unfiltered, meaning a natural haze and some sediment are expected, a sign of minimal processing and a commitment to preserving full flavor.

Spiced Dark Lager will arrive in 16‑oz cans, wrapped in a beautifully illustrated winter scene featuring a deer grazing in a snowy forest surrounded by pine trees, branches, berries, and warm seasonal tones. The artwork reinforces the beer’s cozy, fireside personality and positions it as a standout seasonal lager for fans of malt‑driven, spice‑accented winter releases.

Brewed in beautiful Decorah, Iowa, this lager continues Toppling Goliath’s tradition of crafting expressive, flavorful beers across a wide range of styles. As the brewery continues expanding its lager program, Spiced Dark Lager feels like a natural evolution, a beer that blends tradition, seasonality, and the brewery’s signature attention to detail.

Stay tuned for full release details, tasting notes, and distribution updates as Toppling Goliath prepares to roll this one out across its markets.

Label Text Toppling Goliath Spiced Dark Lager:

“THIS TOASTY DARK LAGER LENDS A RICH AMBER HUE TO YOUR GLASS. BRINGING WARM NOTES TO YOUR SENSES WITH JUST A KISS OF BAKING SPICES; WHILE BALANCING A CRISP LAGER FINISH.”
