West Sixth Brewing Launches Base Layer Winter IPA
Lexington, Kentucky – November 10th 2025 : West Sixth Brewing is excited to announce their newest variety in their seasonal can line-up, Base Layer Winter IPA, rolling out into taprooms and across the state of Kentucky throughout the month of November. This malt-forward India Pale Ale with pine and spice notes will tag out their popular DankeChain Oktoberfest lager.
“When brainstorming this year’s winter seasonal, we leaned hard into part of our mission statement, ‘…(brewing) beers we like to drink’” said Andy Smith, head brewer at West Sixth. “I’ve always wanted to experiment more with more robust malt-base IPA’s, and really highlight the spice and pine characteristics of classic holiday season beers. With our small-scale pilot system in Louisville along with assistant brewer Tyler Farquhar, we were able hone in on something that is truly unique from the rest of our IPA lineup”
While West Sixth is known for its flagship West Sixth IPA, the seasonal lineup has included other lagers, the popular Rosé Crusher cider in the spring & summer, and other experimental favorites over the years to highlight changing tastes and development of craft beer drinkers.
“Our IPA fans aren’t going anywhere, and we’re excited to show them something new while inviting new drinkers into the fold,” said Ben Self, co-founder of West Sixth Brewing. “We are seeing first hand the continual growth in our 13-year-old flagship along with steady demand for our Burning Daylight Double IPA, Hop Static IPA rotator series, and Lazerwave Juicy IPA. IPA styles continue to dominate and we’re always looking to diversify those offerings.”
Base Layer features a winter-feeling design, complete with cool white and green tones, a snowy scene, and touches of nordic inspiration. West Sixth is proud to continue its longstanding relationship with Brian and Sara Turner of Cricket Press as they develop new concepts and brand stories to speak alongside the quality of the products.
Base Layer Winter IPA is brewed with Columbus, Centennial, and Willamette hops and comes in at 7.2%. Available now on taproom shelves and throughout the state of Kentucky at your favorite local craft beer retailer. Learn more at westsixth.com/baselayer
