Kings County Brewers Collective KCBC Adding Skull Pit Cans

Today, I have a new can coming soon from Kings County Brewers Collective (KCBC) in Brooklyn, New York. This is Skull Pit, and it will be a grapefruit IPA brewed in collaboration with Black Pit Brewing in Miami, Florida. The beer will be a west coast-style IPA with grapefruit as well as Simcoe, Centennial, and Zumo hops. Look for Skull Pit to hit 6.2%-AbV, and it will be packaged in these 16-oz cans. Stay tuned for release details.

Bringing Beer Back to Bushwick
Once dubbed “the beer capital of the Northeast,” Bushwick was home to a large German immigrant population and a thriving brewing industry in the late 1800’s. Local beer was everywhere–in particular, on “Brewer’s Row,” where at one point there were 14 breweries operating within a 14 block area.

We have a lot of character
By the turn of the century, a whopping 10% of the beer produced in the US came from Brooklyn, and the majority of that beer was brewed in Bushwick. Then came the New York State hop blight and Prohibition. Ughhhhhh. Only a handful of Brooklyn-based breweries survived. When Rheingold and Schaefer breweries both closed their doors in 1976, Bushwick was left without a local brewery… UNTIL KCBC CAME ALONG! KCBC was the first brick-and-mortar brewery to operate in the neighborhood in more than 40 years.

Since opening in 2016, we have grown from a small posse of co-founders to a kick-ass team of nearly 30 full-time employees. 100% of our product is brewed and packaged on-site here in Bushwick. The neighborhood surrounding us has evolved into a mecca for food, art, music and nightlife. KCBC is smack dab in the middle of all the action, and there’s no place we’d rather be. Our Taproom at 381 Troutman St. is right off the Jefferson stop on the L Train. We’re open 7 days a week for all your hoppy / fruity / crispy / cold beer needs. Can’t make it to Brooklyn? No worries! We distribute weekly to bars, restaurants and stores across NYC and throughout New York State. Outside of that, we also send beer regularly to NJ, PA, CT, VA, MA, RI, MD, DE, FL, and CA–plus we even export beer occasionally to the UK, Scandinavia, Japan, China, and Australia. Meet The Artist
Earl Holloway
Earl grew up in Dogpatch in San Francisco and also lived briefly in the Sierras. As a child, he loved comic books and he loved drawing. In 1987 he headed east to live with extended family in Yonkers and he eventually studied at The School of Visual Arts. After graduating, he worked as a freelance illustrator and created his own comic series before joining the team at KCBC. His hand-drawn illustrations are featured on our can labels and merchandise–as well as coming soon to the walls of the KCBC Taproom.

Kings County Brewers Collective (KCBC) is a Bushwick, Brooklyn-based brewery and taproom founded in 2016 that offers a variety of high-quality, creative beers, including rotating special releases, fruited sours, and barrel-aged brews. Co-founders Zack Kinney, Tony Bellis, and Pete Lengyel sought to create a modern brewery experience with a focus on community, collaboration with artists and other businesses, and a relaxed taproom environment. KCBC’s distinctive comic book-inspired art style on their cans and beer names, often featuring animal-based puns, adds to the brand’s unique identity.

Origins & Founders 
KCBC was started by a group of Brooklyn-based homebrewers who wanted to create a fresh brewery for New York City.

The co-founders, Zack Kinney, Tony Bellis, and Pete Lengyel, met through a New York City homebrewing club.
