Bayou Teche Releasing Acadie Biere

Arnaudville’s Bayou Teche Brewing is releasing Acadie, the brewery’s second seasonally produced beer. Crafted for Louisiana’s busy fall festival season, this limited edition beer pays homage to the Canadian homeland of Acadiana’s Cajun population. Acadie is brewed as a Bière de Garde – a centuries old French style of farmhouse seasonal brew.
Says Bayou Teche’s Karlos Knott, “France’s elegant contribution to the world’s beer styles is Bière de Garde – translated it means “beer for keeping” and has been brewed on French farms for centuries. Just as the French proudly brew their traditional ale, we have crafted an artisanal version we call Acadie – in memory of our Acadian homeland.” Ashlee Michot, a noted blogger about Cajun culture and history said “it’s appropriate, a bière de garde because we too have “garded” our heritage….both keep for a long time!!”
Bière de Gardes are infrequently imported to the States because they are brewed in such small batches that local demand ensures most are consumed near France’s breweries. These French beers are traditionally crafted during the winter and aged for many months creating a dry and smooth beer.
Gar Hatcher, the brewery’s head brewer and production manager said that “As a bière de garde, Acadie offers the style’s prominent malty aroma. A freshly poured beer is highly carbonated and bronze colored with a nice, thick off-white head. The beer is malty with an underlying caramel sweetness, yet finishes medium-dry. The restrained use of imported French hops provides its balanced bitterness.” Acadie offers the smooth roundness of an artisanal farmhouse ale, thus this French style beer is terrific paired with most any cuisine. The brewers say that Acadie brings diverse flavors together for an unforgettable meal.
Acadie is Bayou Teche Brewing’s fall seasonal and approaches 6% ABV, with an IBU of 20. The original gravity of this artisanal ale is 1.065, with a final gravity at 1.016. The restrained use of elegant Strisselspalt hops offer a perfectly balanced bitterness with a very discreet hop aroma. Acadie is brewed using hops, barley and yeast imported from France.
Bayou Teche Brewing features organizations on the bottom of their six pack boxes that are working to preserve the unique cultures of South Louisiana. For their Acadie Biere, Bayou Teche’s Dorsey Knott says, “we wanted to recognize the vital work that Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is doing to preserve and celebrate Cajun and Creole culture and talent. We have partnered with and are a proud supporter of Festival Acadiens et Créoles – six pack carriers of Acadie will promote the yearly autumn event held at Lafayette’s Girard Park. We have been two-stepping to the great lineup of bands at the festival since its inception and we have the dust and mud-stained boots to prove it.”
Acadie will be officially released in Lafayette at Lâche Pas, a celebration of music and cuisine benefiting the efforts of CODOFIL. The brewers urge everyone to join them at this inaugural event to help raise funds for the efforts of CODOFIL (The Council for the Development of French in Louisiana); the state agency charged with French language educational, cultural and economic development initiatives in Louisiana. Lâche Pas will be held on the grounds of the Cochon Restaurant in Lafayette, Sunday August 26th from 5-10 pm. Bayou Teche Brewing will be débuting the initial kegs of Acadie at this important fundraiser.
The limited edition, seasonal batch of Bayou Teche Brewing’s Acadie is now available in six packs and kegs across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and soon in Georgia.
