Sixpoint Tweaks Hi-Res Recipe For 2015

2014 was the beginning of Cycliquids, our new form of beer releases that works on our schedule, so we can release formulations when inspiration strikes and the time is right. With 2015 comes the start of a brand new cycle of freewheelin’ Mad Science.

In early 2014, HI-RES set it off as the culmination of true Mad Scientist obsession. The taste of hops sticks in the brain as well as to the tongue, and once the taste is planted, we cannot help but want more… a clearer perception, a closer view. After months of formulation we arrived at our most hopped can creation of all time, Hi-Res.

The obsession didn’t stop there, though. After a year of analyzing and re-testing our golden hop creation, we dialed in with laser focus to create a tweaked formula even juicier than before. One with a bigger aroma, more hop character, and better clarity. The mark of true hop obsession – beyond hophead into something nuts, like hop-zombie territory – is a never ending commitment to the essence of the hop cone. This year’s Hi-Res balances the complex flavors of malt body and massive doses of hop juice.

"Working with raw, juicy, nasty, and intense flavors has been part of our DNA since 2004" said Shane Welch, President and Founder of Sixpoint. "Fans loved our inaugural canned release of Hi-Res last year, but we actually wanted to improve the experience for them this year. After an entire year of feedback, we are stoked to be bringing back even more sauce in 2015!"

After Hi-Res quelled our hop cravings (for the moment), the Beast inside led us on another mad dash.

Something like a cross between a robust, roasty porter and a smooth red ale, with the big, tasty hop aroma of a pale ale,BEAST MODE is a totally original Sixpoint formulation.

The brew pours chocolate lab with ruby highlights. The nose is downright beastly – coffee, roast, hops, caramel. The texture is medium bodied with a touch of roast upfront on the tongue, followed by sweet toffee and malt on the tail end. The beer finishes dry without any lingering bitterness. Lots of bark but it won’t bite – just a howler and growler.
