Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Short’s Brewing Good Humans

I realized after I typed the post title that it sounded a bit like I was highlighting people and not beer, but don’t be alarmed.  Fortunately for all of us, the “Good Humans” I’m talking about is actually a beer…and a good one at that.

Today we sampling Short’s Brewing Good Humans and if you’re not familiar with this beer, it’s a seasonal release just hitting shelves in MI, PA, OH, IN, IL and WI (in late Dec).  This beer was originally created to showcase Breiss Malting Company’s new Carabrown Malt.  The beer was intended to be a one-off release but Short’s is now bringing it back as a seasonal by popular demand.

Good Humans is a dry-hopped double brown ale and it pours a medium brown color with plenty of caramel and sweet malty aromas.  When we tasted Good Humans we really liked the big malt presence, but after a few sips we realized we were missing half of the beer-equation.  The sweet toffee and caramel flavors are nicely balanced by the dry-hopping that uses Goldings and Simcoe hops.  At 40 IBU we were surprised how much the hops stepped up to the plate, but still let the unique malty sweetness take center stage.  Good Humans is also a surprising 9.15%-AbV so there is a warming and boozy presence that will get your attention, but the beer finishes dry with a burst of floral and herbal hops to help clean it all up.  We really liked the sweet malt, hoppy balance and we really enjoyed how well the boozy flavors contributed to the overall balance.

Good Humans is a really unique and really drinkable (but BIG) double brown ale that you should definitely try.  I was expecting a malt bomb, but in the end it was much more…and really well balanced and nicely attenuated.  Be sure to try Short’s Brewing Good Humans for yourself, and when you do be sure to let us know what YOU think.
