Tyranena Bitter Woman IPA Becomes Best Seller & NO They Are NOT Going Out of Business

The New Number One. Basically since its debut over ten years ago, the Bitter Woman IPA has been, by far, our best selling beer. When giving a tour, many have heard me proclaim the Bitter Woman to be nearly 30% of our production… Well, somewhere in 2012, our dear old lady was shoved aside by a serpentine lake monster…. Mostly attributed to its growing popularity in Chicago, Minneapolis and Indiana markets, production of Rocky’s Revenge has now officially surpassed Bitter Woman IPA to become our most produced and best-selling brand.
While growth of any kind is a fantastic problem to have, increased demand of a barrel-aged beer poses its own set of hurdles… More lead time required for production, more (and costly) raw materials required, more space needed for aging… all things we have been struggling with over the past few months. It’s astonishing to me that with a repertoire including 6 year-rounds, 6 seasonals and 3 or 4 Brewers Gone Wild! releases each year, production of just two styles of beer account for nearly 60% of our sales!
Dispelling Rumors. No… Tyranena Brewing Company is not going out of business. If we close our doors in 2013, it’ll be because Rob jetted off to some exotic location and simply refused to return. (Hey, that could happen…) I broach the subject because last week, a sweet and concerned patron asked if we were going under; seems like a rumor was floating around the area that the reason we were not open on New Year’s Eve was because we were about to declare bankruptcy. Nope. Simply not so. To be completely frank, the main reasons we were not open on NYE was lack of staff availability and the fact that NYE fell on a Monday!
But last week’s conversation reminded me that I had heard a similar story over the summer, which surfaced shortly after we did not renew our liquor license. (We didn’t renew our liquor license because the laws changed, not because we were contemplating closing up shop then either; breweries in Wisconsin no longer require a traditional liquor license from their municipality.) Rest assured, you can expect to see beers from your favorite Lake Mills brewery on tap and on shelves (I hope) at select watering holes and liquor counters in the Midwest and, on most afternoons/evenings, plan to raise a pint in our lovely Tasting Room… At least until we sell out to Miller or Anheuser-Busch. (hehehe)
