Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias
Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias Is Coming Soon
Samuel Adams is once again reaching into its legendary Utopias barrel program for a special Cincinnati Taproom anniversary release, and this year’s creation looks particularly intriguing. Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias takes the brewery’s beloved Cherry Wheat Ale and ages it in former Samuel Adams Utopias barrels, creating a limited barrel-aged beer that combines fruit character with the deep, layered flavors associated with the brewery’s extreme beer program.
The new Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias is described on the label as an Imperial Cherry Wheat, with the beer specifically created to celebrate another anniversary at the brewery’s Cincinnati Taproom. The package identifies the beer as Cherry Wheat Ale and shows a 750mL bottle, making this a specialty-format release rather than a conventional six-pack beer.
The label promises deep cherry character woven together with layers of vanilla, caramel and toffee from the barrel, finishing with a warm character. That combination suggests a substantial, dessert-like barrel-aged beer where the fruit component of Cherry Wheat meets the complex flavors contributed by the former Utopias barrels, making the Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias a standout offering.
Samuel Adams has not yet revealed the final ABV, release date, distribution details or complete tasting notes, but the label provides an excellent preview of what should be one of the brewery’s more interesting 2026 specialty releases, particularly for fans of Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry WheaTopias.

Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias Brings Together Cherry Wheat and Utopias
The concept behind Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias is fascinating because it connects two very different parts of the Samuel Adams portfolio.
On one side is Cherry Wheat Ale, a fruit-forward wheat beer that provides the foundation for this specialty release. On the other is Utopias, Samuel Adams’ legendary barrel-aged extreme beer that has become one of the brewery’s signature examples of experimental brewing.
The brewery has been pushing the boundaries of barrel aging for decades. Samuel Adams says it pioneered aging beer in used spirits barrels with Triple Bock in the 1990s, while its Utopias program eventually pushed the concept into an entirely different realm.
Now those two brewing traditions are being brought together in Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias.
The label makes the intended flavor direction particularly clear. Rather than simply adding cherry character to a high-alcohol barrel-aged beer, Samuel Adams is starting with Cherry Wheat Ale and allowing time in former Utopias barrels to build additional complexity.
The result is described as having deep cherry character, followed by layers of vanilla, caramel and toffee contributed by the barrel. The label also promises a warm finish, creating a profile that sounds designed for slow sipping and savoring.
The 750mL bottle is another indication that this is intended to be a special-occasion beer. It is a format frequently associated with specialty, barrel-aged and cellar-worthy releases rather than everyday beer.
The Cincinnati connection is equally important. Samuel Adams operates a Cincinnati brewery and Cincinnati Taproom, and the company’s official site currently lists its Cincinnati location alongside its Boston brewery and Boston Taproom.
This isn’t the first time the Cincinnati operation has been involved with a special Utopias-inspired beer. MyBeerBuzz previously reported Imperial Cream Topias, a cream stout aged in Samuel Adams Utopias barrels as the 2025 Cincinnati Taproom anniversary beer. That release was also packaged in 750mL bottles.
That makes Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias look like a continuation of a particularly interesting Cincinnati Taproom tradition.
And while the final alcohol percentage has not yet been announced, the name “Imperial” and the use of Utopias barrels suggest this will be a beer intended to be treated differently from a standard Cherry Wheat.
For Samuel Adams fans, barrel-aged beer collectors and drinkers who enjoy fruit-forward specialty releases, Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias could become one of the more anticipated Cincinnati-connected Samuel Adams beers of 2026.

About Samuel Adams and The Boston Beer Company:
Samuel Adams is the flagship craft beer brand of The Boston Beer Company, one of the companies most closely associated with the development of the modern American craft brewing movement. The Samuel Adams story began in 1984, when founder and brewer Jim Koch brewed a family recipe in his kitchen. That recipe became Samuel Adams Boston Lager and helped introduce American drinkers to a fuller-flavored alternative to the mass-market lagers that dominated the beer industry at the time.
Boston Lager quickly established Samuel Adams as a major name in American craft beer. The beer debuted commercially in Boston in 1985 and was voted “Best Beer in America” at the Great American Beer Festival just six weeks later.
But Samuel Adams has never been a brewery content to make only one beer. From its earliest years, the company embraced seasonal brewing, experimental recipes, specialty ingredients, barrel aging and innovative brewing techniques.
That philosophy is especially evident in the history of Utopias. Samuel Adams’ extreme beer program grew from earlier experiments such as Triple Bock and eventually produced Utopias, a highly concentrated, barrel-aged beer designed to challenge conventional ideas about what beer could be. The brewery describes Utopias as a boundary-pushing beer that blurs the line between beer and fine spirits.
Samuel Adams has also developed a substantial portfolio beyond Boston Lager and Utopias. The current lineup includes Boston Lager, Cherry Wheat, American Light, New England Juicy IPA, Cherry Bomb and numerous seasonal, limited and regional beers.
Cherry Wheat is particularly relevant to this new release because it provides the base beer for Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias. By taking the cherry wheat concept and aging it in former Utopias barrels, Samuel Adams is essentially combining one of its fruit-forward beer traditions with its most famous barrel-aging program.
The brewery’s Cincinnati presence is also an important part of the Samuel Adams story. The company acquired an historic Cincinnati brewery in 1997 and renovated the facility, while its Cincinnati Taproom has become a location for specialty beers and anniversary releases.
That Cincinnati connection has produced some fascinating beers covered by MyBeerBuzz. In 2025, Samuel Adams developed Imperial Cream Topias, aging a cream stout in Utopias barrels specifically to celebrate the Cincinnati Taproom anniversary.
The new Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias follows that same basic tradition while changing the underlying beer from cream stout to Cherry Wheat Ale.
Samuel Adams’ commitment to experimentation remains one of the defining characteristics of the brewery. Its official history points to innovations ranging from barrel aging and extreme beers to seasonal brewing and non-alcoholic beer development.
That willingness to experiment makes Samuel Adams Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias a natural fit for the brewery. It combines a recognizable Samuel Adams beer style, a specialty barrel-aging technique, the highly recognizable Utopias name and a Cincinnati Taproom anniversary tradition.
The final ABV and release information remain to be announced, but the 750mL Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias bottle already provides a compelling preview. With deep cherry character, vanilla, caramel, toffee and a warm barrel-aged finish promised on the label, this could be a particularly memorable addition to the Samuel Adams specialty beer lineup.
For fans of Samuel Adams beer, Utopias, barrel-aged beer, Cherry Wheat, Cincinnati craft beer and limited-edition specialty releases, Imperial Cherry Wheat Topias is definitely one to watch.
