Lakewood Brewing Celebrates Punktoberfest by
Hosting State of Texas Official Steinholding Competition Qualifier
DALLAS, Texas (September 2025) – Lakewood Brewing Company will celebrate Punktoberfest, going full punk on Oktoberfest, with an all day party on Saturday, September 27 from noon to 8 p.m. Punktoberfest 2025 is also an official North Texas qualifying event for the 2025 Texas Steinholding Competition, so punked out guests can flex their forearms for fame and first place, which includes the chance to participate in November’s State Finals at Wurstfest in New Braunfels.
Punktoberfest is the annual celebration of Lakewood’s Punkel, which was one of the first Dallas pumpkin-inspired beers containing no pumpkin, just pumpkin pie spices. First released in 2013, it survived the Pumpkin Beer Craze of 2014 and Pumpkin Beer Demise of 2016 to be one of the last pumpkin-inspired beers left standing. It is Lakewood’s longest and most popular seasonal.
The beer returns to join Lakewood’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Temptress, totally not your basic batch, on shelves for its third season, which brings together the cozy warmth of pumpkin spice and the bold flavor of coffee, with subtle notes of cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, and ginger. Lakewood will round out the fall flavors with the first-ever release of Pecan Pie Temptress next month, inspired by Emporium Pies’ “The Drunken Nut” bourbon pecan pie.
“Fall is upon us, a time for seasonal brews, patio hangs, and plenty of reasons to shout PROST! with your people,” said Wim Bens, founder and president of Lakewood Brewing Company. “Whether you’re here to compete or just vibe with a pint, this is the Oktoberfest remix you didn’t know you needed. Bring your friends, bring your stein game, and let’s get a little loud.”
Those competing will hold a full one-liter beer stein straight out in front of their bodies with a straight arm parallel to the ground. The last one holding in good form wins. A full one-liter dimpled glass stein should weigh approximately 5 pounds, of which 3 pounds is the stein itself.
Without training, the typical man can last between three to five minutes, and a woman between one and three.
The Steinholding Competition will take place from 12 to 2 p.m., and will include both a women’s and men’s competition. Those interested in entering can sign-up at lakewoodbrewing.com.
Punktoberfest is free and will also feature live music and flavors to make tastebuds want to crowdsurf. The Black Water Hose will melt guests faces off with live punk rock from 3 to 6 p.m., while additional delectables beyond the Lakewood kitchen will include a curated beer and sausage pairing, a T-Rex Pickles pop-Up, and a Happy Flour pop-up with Punkel infused sweet treats. The event is family-friendly, with dogs welcome on the patio and in the Beer Garden.
Beyond its Temptress lineup, Lakewood’s portfolio includes year-round IPAs, Pony Pils, lagers, and popular seasonal releases, all drawing beer lovers to its Taproom and Beer Garden at 2302 Executive Drive in Garland. Lakewood beers can be located in stores and on tap across Texas with the Lakewood Beer Finder and by following @lakewoodbrewing on the socials.
