Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Short’s Prolonged Enjoyment Session IPA

I’ll admit that I really have an odd palate for Session IPAs; but I guess I should also admit that today’s beer has a unique characteristic that has made it a session IPA I’ve always wanted to try…and who can resist the name?

Today we’re trying out Prolonged Enjoyment from Short’s Brewing in Elk Rapids, MI.  This beer is of course a session IPA, and Short’s has made it a really sessionable IPA at 3.5%-AbV.  Yes you read that right, 3.5%-AbV…BUT…get beyond that…Prolonged Enjoyment also has 45 IBU to satisfy any hop-loving beer drinker.

Prolonged Enjoyment leads with some really pleasant citrus and resinous aromas, thanks in part to the Citra (I love Citra ), Simcoe and Amarillo hops on board.  The balance of this beer is nice, and for me the flavors definitely lean more into the hoppy side than the malty side of the IPA fence.   As we sampled this beer more and more (yes it’s really sessionable), we couldn’t help noticing how the aromas were so good that they even dominated the flavors a bit (but just a bit).  Make no mistake…this beer does have a really dominant citrus and grassy hop presence with a surprising resinous finish.  In the end I kept finding myself saying over and over again, “really….3.5%…really?”
