Karl Strauss Kicks Off Their 26th Year with Changing of the Barrels Celebration & New Beer Releases

Feb. 6, 2015 – SAN DIEGO — San Diego, CA – February 6, 2015 – Tomorrow night, Karl Strauss Brewing Company celebrates 26 years of crafting the San Diego scene with their annual Changing of the Barrels (http://www.karlstrauss.com/cotb/index.html) event, hosted at their Tasting Room & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach. Every year, they invite fans to the brewery to witness a literal “changing” of the barrels. This year, Karl Strauss will debut their 26th Anniversary Ale (http://www.karlstrauss.com/beer/anniversary.html) which just spent a year aging in oak barrels. This will also be the only chance for people who proudly “fuss over their beer” to dissect the 27thAnniversary Ale before it gets put into barrels for the next twelve months.
This year’s anniversary beer is a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Belgian Dark Strong Ale packed with dark fruit and caramel flavors, with hints of bourbon and toasted oak. The warm finish makes this beer perfect for celebrating – which is what Changing of the Barrels is all about. “We stashed away an assortment of really exciting beers for this year’s bash,” says Paul Segura, Brewmaster of Karl Strauss Brewing Company. “26 beers for 26 years! I’m especially looking forward to sharing the numerous barrel-aged offerings with our fans – it’s a showcase of some of the exciting things to come from Karl Strauss this year.” A few of the barrel-aged stand outs include Rella (their Barrel-Aged Sour with Cherries), a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Tripel, the aforementioned 26th Anniversary Ale, and a very rare beer they named Who’s Your Pappy. Plus, all their taps will be flowing with limited release brews, tank taps, and plenty of Karl Strauss classics.
Changing of the Barrels will also be the first chance for fans to try Karl Strauss’ full scale release of their award winning Mosaic Session Ale (http://www.karlstrauss.com/beer/mosaic.html). “Folks went insane over Mosaic last year, and we’re more than happy to answer their demands by adding it to our year round line up” says Segura. This year will also bring about the development of an official Sour Program for Karl Strauss Brewing Company, so ready your taste buds for an increased number of sour releases throughout the year.
