Bell’s Brewery Teaming Up With Allagash Brewing for Co-Hearted IPA
Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA With Allagash Brewing
There is something particularly exciting about seeing two highly respected American craft breweries bring their brewing philosophies together, and this new collaboration from Bell’s Brewery and Allagash Brewing Company certainly fits that description. Coming from Bell’s home base in Comstock, Michigan, and Allagash’s brewery in Portland, Maine, Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA combines the familiar Hearted family identity with a collaboration partner known for decades of brewing innovation.
The new beer is being presented as a Limited American IPA Edition, giving fans another reason to keep an eye out for this special Bell’s beer. At 6.5% ABV, Co-Hearted IPA also comes in slightly below the 7% ABV associated with several of Bell’s Hearted IPA variations, potentially making this collaboration a particularly approachable addition to the family.
The new Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA will arrive in 12-ounce cans, with the package featuring both breweries prominently alongside artwork depicting trout moving through a wooded Michigan-and-Maine-inspired landscape. Release timing, distribution, tasting notes, and the exact hop and recipe have yet to be announced, making this a collaboration worth watching as more information becomes available.

Discovering Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA: A Unique Brew Experience
The Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA name immediately connects this new collaboration to one of Bell’s most recognizable beer families. Bell’s Two Hearted IPA has long been one of the brewery’s defining beers, and the brewery has increasingly explored the Hearted concept through variations including SMaSH Hearted, Cold Hearted, Change of Heart, Hazy Hearted and Big Hearted.
MyBeerBuzz.com previously reported on Bell’s SMaSH Hearted IPA, a 7% ABV single-malt, single-hop IPA packaged in 12-ounce cans as part of a Hearted variety pack. Bell’s has also developed Cold Hearted IPA, another 7% ABV Hearted-family variation that has recently moved into 19.2-ounce tallboy cans.
Co-Hearted takes that increasingly diverse Hearted IPA platform in a different direction by bringing Allagash Brewing Company into the equation.
The collaboration is especially interesting because Bell’s and Allagash have each established distinctive identities within American craft brewing. The new Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA not only showcases Bell’s brewing heritage but also highlights Allagash’s creativity and influence in the craft beer scene.
The result is a beer that should generate considerable interest among fans of both breweries, particularly collectors and drinkers looking for limited-edition American IPAs.
At 6.5% ABV, Co-Hearted IPA sits in a familiar American IPA range while coming in below the standard 7% ABV of several Hearted releases. The 12-ounce can format should also make this special-edition collaboration easy to spot on shelves.
For now, the greatest details still to come are the release date, distribution footprint, hop bill, packaging format, and official tasting notes. Those details should help reveal exactly how Bell’s and Allagash have interpreted the Hearted IPA concept together.

About Bell’s Brewery:
Bell’s Brewery is one of Michigan’s best-known craft breweries, with a history that reaches back to 1985 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, when founder Larry Bell began turning his passion for homebrewing into a commercial brewery. Bell’s origins were decidedly small, beginning with brewing in a 15-gallon soup pot before the company expanded into one of the largest and most influential craft breweries in the United States.
The brewery’s history is closely connected to innovation, experimentation and American craft beer culture. Bell’s early beers helped establish the brewery in Michigan, while iconic releases such as Two Hearted IPA, Oberon Ale and Hopslam Ale eventually helped propel Bell’s into the national craft beer conversation.
Two Hearted IPA is particularly important to the Bell’s story. The modern version debuted in 1997 as a winter seasonal before becoming a year-round beer in 2003. Bell’s says Two Hearted eventually surpassed Oberon as its best-selling beer in 2013.
Bell’s expanded its brewing operations significantly when it moved production to Comstock, Michigan. The brewery purchased land in Comstock Township in 2001, with construction completed and brewing beginning there in 2002. The Comstock brewery opened for business in 2003 and subsequently underwent numerous expansions.
That Comstock brewing facility is now directly connected to the brewery’s national production and distribution operations. Bell’s continues to produce a broad portfolio of beers while also maintaining its original Kalamazoo presence, including the Eccentric Café and small-batch brewing.
The brewery’s Hearted IPA family has become an increasingly interesting part of that portfolio. Beyond Two Hearted, Bell’s has experimented with multiple interpretations of the Hearted concept, including Double Two Hearted, Hazy Hearted, Big Hearted, Cold Hearted, Change of Heart and SMaSH Hearted. MyBeerBuzz has followed several of those releases as Bell’s continues expanding the Hearted IPA name into new brewing territory.
The new Co-Hearted IPA adds another chapter to that evolution, this time through a collaboration with Allagash Brewing Company. The partnership brings together Bell’s Michigan craft brewing heritage and Allagash’s long-standing reputation for innovative, Belgian-inspired and American craft beers.
For Bell’s fans, the collaboration is another opportunity to see how the brewery continues to reinterpret familiar concepts while maintaining connections to the beers and brewing traditions that established its reputation.
About Allagash Brewing Company:
Allagash Brewing Company has been a major part of the American craft beer landscape since 1995, when founder Rob Tod established the brewery in Portland, Maine. What began as a one-person operation in a corner of a warehouse has grown into a destination brewery with a national reputation for quality, innovation and Belgian-inspired brewing.
Allagash’s first beer was Allagash White, a Belgian-style wheat beer inspired by Tod’s discovery of Belgian brewing traditions. The beer initially stood out because American drinkers were more accustomed to clear lagers and traditional ales, but Allagash White eventually became one of the brewery’s signature beers and one of the most decorated wheat beers in the world.
Over the years, Allagash expanded its brewing portfolio far beyond its flagship wheat beer. The brewery became known for Belgian-style ales, barrel-aged beers, mixed-fermentation releases, spontaneously fermented beers and innovative seasonal and limited beers.
Allagash also played an important role in American spontaneous fermentation. In 2007, the brewery began brewing traditional lambic-style spontaneously fermented beer using a coolship, eventually producing Coolship Resurgam and developing an extensive wild-beer program.
Today, Allagash remains headquartered in Portland, Maine, at the same general location where the brewery began. Its Portland brewery and tasting room have become a destination for beer travelers, offering fresh beer, food, tours and an extensive selection of beers.
Sustainability and community involvement are also important elements of the Allagash identity. The brewery became a Certified B Corporation in 2019 and has continued developing programs focused on employees, community support and Maine agriculture. In 2025, Allagash used more than 2 million pounds of Maine-grown and Maine-processed grain, representing a major milestone in its long-running commitment to local agriculture.
The brewery’s reputation for quality has also translated into significant recognition. Allagash beers have earned numerous medals at major competitions, while founder Rob Tod received the 2019 James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional.
Now, the Bell’s Co-Hearted IPA and Allagash collaboration brings these two respected American breweries together for a limited American IPA. With its 6.5% ABV, 12-ounce cans and distinctive Bell’s Hearted branding, Co-Hearted IPA looks poised to become an intriguing new collaboration for fans of both Bell’s Brewery and Allagash Brewing Company.
