Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Allagash Floating Holiday and Seconds to Summer (Review)

I probably begin almost every review article that highlights Allagash Brewing with my “good old days Allagash” story…so my apologies if you’d heard this before. Back in the early days of barrel-aged beers, Allagash came out with a beer called Curieux. This barrel-aged golden ale had just hit our local markets, and I split a 22oz bottle with several friends….who all loved it. A week later I decided that the beer was so good, I’d get another bottle. Fortunately (or unfortunately), that night I only had one friend to share with. Lets just say, we had a really good time that night sharing 22 ounces of a really good 10.2% beer. I’m sure I paid for it the next morning, But Allagash Curieux remains one of my favorites to this day.

With that in mind, I was excited to get a chance to sample some new beers from Allagash Brewing…Floating Holiday and Seconds to Summer. These limited summer seasonals were announced in April (and released in mid-May) and they are the latest canned beers coming from Allagash for summer 2022.  Floating Holiday is a “dry and balanced blonde ale with lemon peel and sea salt” and Seconds To Summer is a “crisp and hoppy lager.” Seconds to Summer uses traditional hops from the Czech Republic and it is fermented with Belgian yeast and both beers were a product of the Allagash pilot innovation brewing system. Seconds to Summer will be packaged in 12oz cans and Floating Holiday will hit 16oz cans. Of course I’m anxious to try them so off we go.

Allagash Brewing Floating Holiday

ABV:  5.2%
Style:  Blonde Ale

Appearance:  Lightly hazy gold orange
Aroma:   Citrus & lemon
Mouthfeel:   Medium
Taste:   Citrus, lemon and sea salt
Overall:  Floating Holiday reminds me of a untraditional gose-style beer, but with so much more flavor and complexity. The beer is bright, crisp and clean and a really drinkable combination of citrus flavors. Overall the beer is really balanced, refreshing and drinkable and has already become one of my favorite summer (and beach) beers…and I love the fact that is is sessionable and also in a 16oz cans.

Allagash Brewing Seconds To Summer

ABV:  4.5%
Style:  Hoppy Lager
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Clear golden straw
Aroma:   Biscuity malt & grains
Mouthfeel:   Light
Taste:   Light malt flavors with medium hop presence
Overall:  Seconds To Summer has a really drinkable and familiar combination of flavors placing it on the hoppier end of traditional lagers. The beer leans a bit toward the pilsner lane but with a bit more hops and overall it is a really crisp, refreshing and slightly dry beer. This beer will make for a great summer sipper and a really familiar beer that I think will serve as a gateway beer for anyone seeking out better beer.
