Tröegs House Spirits and Handmade Cocktails Revealed
Tröegs House Spirits
Tröegs Independent Brewing is taking its spirit of experimentation beyond beer with the launch of Tröegs Independent Spirits, a new small-batch spirits program from the family-owned Hershey, Pennsylvania brewery. The inaugural lineup features Tröegs Original Gin and Tröegs Orange Amaro, two very different spirits that translate some of the brewery’s familiar flavor-driven thinking into distilled form.
The new program represents a natural extension of Tröegs’ long-running emphasis on experimentation. The brewery says its team spent months exploring ingredients, flavors and distilling techniques before settling on the first two spirits. Both products are produced with carefully selected botanicals and ingredients and undergo tasting trials before packaging. Tröegs’ official spirits page currently lists Original Gin at 40% ABV and Orange Amaro at 32% ABV.
The launch also introduces a new Cocktail Bar inside the Tröegs Tasting Room, where guests can experience cocktails made with one or both of the new house spirits. The current cocktail menu includes seven creations ranging from a Botanical Martini and Bee’s Knees to a Negroni, Gilded Manhattan and Blueberry Bramble.
Tröegs House Spirits Original Gin
Tröegs Original Gin provides the brewery’s interpretation of a classic botanical spirit. The gin is juniper-forward, with the dry, piney character traditionally associated with gin, while additional botanicals provide a more layered profile.
The official ingredient list includes juniper, coriander, angelica root, orris root, cassia bark, dried lemon peel, elderflower and fresh orange peel. Tröegs describes the resulting spirit as complex and harmonious, while emphasizing its versatility in classic cocktails, martinis and gin-and-tonics.
The gin also demonstrates how Tröegs approached the transition from brewing to distilling. Rather than simply creating a conventional gin, the brewery says the project gave its brewing team an opportunity to explore how familiar flavor concepts could be expressed in an entirely different beverage category.
Tröegs House Spirits Orange Amaro
The second release, Tröegs Orange Amaro, moves in a distinctly different direction. The 32% ABV liqueur combines citrus, herbal and bitter characteristics, with the official ingredient list including angelica root, coriander, gentian root, dried lemon peel, dried bitter orange peel, dried sweet orange peel, rhubarb root, cane sugar and honey.
Tröegs describes Orange Amaro as balancing bracing bitterness with citrus sweetness. Its deep amber appearance and orange-peel character make it particularly suited to sipping over ice, while the brewery also recommends it as a component in cocktails such as a Negroni or Spritz.
The brewery’s current cocktail menu expands those possibilities even further. The Negroni combines Tröegs Original Gin, Tröegs Orange Amaro and Lustau Rojo Vermouth, while the Gilded Manhattan pairs Orange Amaro with Old Forester 100 Proof, vermouth and honey.
Tröegs House Spirits From Scratch Beer to Independent Spirits
Experimentation has long been central to Tröegs’ identity. The brewery’s Scratch Series and Scratch Lab have provided a testing ground for new ingredients, techniques and beer styles, and that same curiosity now extends into distilled spirits.
John Trogner, Tröegs co-founder and brewmaster, describes the spirits project as another way to explore how ingredients influence the sensory experience. The brewery’s launch announcement specifically connects the Orange Amaro to the bitterness and citrus character of Perpetual IPA, while the Original Gin draws inspiration from the delicate, refreshing qualities of Sunshine Pilsner.
That connection between beer and spirits gives the new program an unmistakably Tröegs identity while allowing the brewery to explore an entirely different production process.
Tröegs House Spirits: New Tröegs Cocktail Bar in Hershey
The launch of Tröegs Independent Spirits is also changing the beverage experience at the brewery’s Hershey headquarters. Guests visiting the Tasting Room can now order cocktails built around the new spirits at the Cocktail Bar.
Among the current offerings are the Botanical Martini, Bee’s Knees, Monterita, Negroni, Boulevardier, Gilded Manhattan and Blueberry Bramble. The Blueberry Bramble combines Tröegs Original Gin with blueberry purée, DreamWeaver Wheat, honey and fresh lime juice, creating a cocktail that directly incorporates one of the brewery’s beers alongside its new spirit.
Both Tröegs Original Gin and Tröegs Orange Amaro are currently exclusive to Tröegs Independent Brewing at 200 East Hershey Park Drive in Hershey, Pennsylvania, making a visit to the brewery the place to experience the initial releases.
Here is the official announcement from Tröegs Independent Brewing:
HERSHEY, PA – Tröegs Independent Brewing is excited to announce the launch of Tröegs Independent Spirits.
Its first venture into the world of distilled spirits, the independent Hershey, PA-based brewery is leading with two releases: Tröegs Original Gin and Tröegs Orange Amaro.
Tröegs House Spirits Original Gin offers a contemporary twist on an age-old classic. Juniper-forward with a dry, piney character, the addition of carefully selected botanicals softens the flavor profile to create an elegant, layered palate with a complex yet harmonious finish.
Tröegs House SPirits Orange Amaro liqueur pours a lovely deep amber to present an expressive bouquet of bright citrus balanced with complex herbal aromatics and pithy orange peel. While it can be enjoyed straight on the rocks, it also shines as the base for a Negroni or Spritz.
The Tröegs brewing team spent months exploring the intersection of flavors, ingredients, and distilling techniques through experimentation and trial and error.
Each batch begins with fresh botanicals, carefully selected ingredients, and a passion for delicious flavors. Like all of Tröegs’ beers, these spirits go through a series of tasting trials before they are packaged.
“These tasting sessions bring our teams together to taste, talk, and fine-tune every detail, from distillation processes to the botanicals that help shape each batch,” says Tröegs co-founding brother and brewmaster John Trogner.
To coincide with the launch of Tröegs Independent Spirits, Tröegs is now serving a variety of handmade cocktails at its new Cocktail Bar inside the Tasting Room. All seven creations are made with one or both of Tröegs’ house spirits. Libations include a signature Blueberry Bramble, Botanical Martini, Gilded Manhattan, Negroni, and more.
“Throughout our entire career, we’ve been fascinated with how different ingredients trigger different parts of the sensory experience,” explains Trogner. “Orange Amaro is meant to mimic Perpetual IPA with big, bracing bitterness and a huge blast of citrus. Our Gin plays on the delicate and refreshing character of Sunshine Pilsner. It’s fun to think about these flavor sensations in a whole new realm. Experimentation has always been a building block of Tröegs, and this project has our curiosity running wild.”
Both Tröegs Original Gin and Tröegs Orange Amaro are available exclusively at Tröegs Independent Brewing, located at 200 E. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey, PA.
