I’m sad to report that after over a decade of brewing, another award-winning brewery (that I have visited many times) will close it’s doors. This one is fairly local as Two Rivers Brewing announces their closure in Easton, Pennsylvania. The closure will occur at close of business on Sunday August 17th so be sure to get over and have a beer (or three) while you can. Stay tuned for details on what will become of the Quakertown, PA Two Rivers Brewing location.
Text from Two Rivers Brewing Facebook Announcement:
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that we are closing our Easton, PA location for retail sales at the end of business on Sunday August 17th. We are proud of the memories made and friendships formed over the years. We’d like to thank our wonderful staff for all their hard work and dedication over the years. We are so proud of their achievements over the years, numerous World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Fest (GABF) medals, Pennsylvania Farm Show and Allentown Fair ribbons, as well as Best of the Valley awards for Best Burger and Best Fries. We have had the honor of saving one of the most architecturally interesting buildings in Easton, lovingly restoring the old girl and fortifying it for the future. It’s been our joy to witness celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings. We’d like to thank our customers who have supported us over the years, from our Founders Club members, our Speakeasy Fellowship members, and everyone who showed up week after week. We’re proud of the people we’ve highlighted and the causes supported through Great Beers for Great Causes beer releases.
Thank you for all your support!

About Two Rivers Brewing:
Two Rivers Brewing Company is located in the previously named Mt. Vernon Hotel.
This historic building was built in three sections. The oldest section fronts Northampton Street and dates back to approximately 1810. The middle section was built around 1850 and the rear section in the 1920’s. Earliest records we found indicated the building operated as a hotel continuously from 1855 until 1994. It even served as a brothel at certain times! Rumor has it that during WWII, the soldiers would come in from NYC and visit the ladies on Pine Street (located behind Dykes Lumber) and escort them to the Mt. Vernon. Evidence of this can be found on the still untouched fourth floor where outlines of the rooms still exist.
Helen Snyder who operated the Mt. Vernon from 1948 through 1992 was quite a fixture in Easton. We have played homage to her by hanging a painted portrait of her near the exits on the 6th Street side of the bar room. The room she is standing in is what the bar room once looked like.
The first floor bar room is relatively untouched. The beautiful 1920’s vintage tin ceilings were repaired and painted. The original milk glass lighting fixtures and terrazzo floors only needed minor repairs and clean up. The focal point of the room is, of course, the 1929 Zenith Radio Bar, which was purchased by the then owners from a Sears Catalog as a kit. The building’s prominent Victorian era turret has an unknown past. It is not original to the building, and we have heard stories that it was actually added on as part of a lost bet at some time in the late 1800’s.
This building has also served as a location for the film “The Florentine”. The film featured many well known actors such as Chris Penn, Virginia Madsen, Burt Young and Luke Perry among others. Unfortunately, the film never made it to wide release. It is available on DVD, and not only features our building, but many prominent Easton and Lehigh Valley locations.
Henry C. Tilton
Henry C. Tilton, former resident of our building when it was the Mount Vernon Hotel, Tilton was Easton’s Police Chief and a decorated Civil War veteran. Our Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Tilton’s Barleywine – 10.7% ABV, is named after him. Rich toffee flavors and thick malt mix with vanilla, coconut, and warming alcohol. Aged for 3 months in a Four Roses barrel.
Two Rivers Brewing Company was a brewpub located in a historic building in Easton, Pennsylvania that has recently announced its closure.
Here’s a summary of what made Two Rivers Brewing notable:
Location and Atmosphere: Situated in the former Mount Vernon Hotel, a building with parts dating back to 1810, the pub embraced its history with restored elements like tin ceilings, milk glass lighting, and terrazzo floors.
Brewing and Beer: They brewed a variety of award-winning craft beers on-site and also featured guest taps. Their beer selection included styles like IPAs, lagers, sours, porters, and more, often named with local historical significance.
Food and Dining: Two Rivers offered a menu focused on locally sourced and fresh ingredients, described as a “farm-to-table gastropub fare with a French flair”. They were particularly known for their unique takes on burgers, like the Peanut Butter Bacon Cheddar Burger, and other pub favorites like duck fat fries and chili.
Dining Options: The venue offered various dining spaces, including a main dining room, a private dining room, and second-floor dining rooms. They also offered outdoor seating.
Awards: Two Rivers Brewing received accolades for its beers, including awards from the PA Farm Show’s craft beer competition and the Great American Beer Festival.
While the Easton location closed in August 2025, Two Rivers Brewing also has a taproom located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. This taproom opened in 2020 and features craft beer and food in a relaxed setting with live music and outdoor fire pits.
