Delirium Tropicalum From Brouwerij Huyghe Is Coming to the U.S.
Today I have an exciting new Belgian beer coming to the United States from Brouwerij Huyghe in Melle, Belgium, and this one puts a distinctly tropical spin on the famous Delirium family. Delirium Tropicalum is a Belgian Blond with tropical fruits, delivering a substantial 8.5% ABV and arriving in the familiar 11.2-ounce bottle format.
The label immediately makes the beer’s identity clear: Delirium Tropicalum – Belgian Blond With Tropical Fruits. It is also described as a malt beverage with natural flavors, setting it apart from the classic Delirium beers while maintaining the distinctive Delirium branding and pink elephant imagery.
At 8.5% ABV, Delirium Tropicalum Belgian Blond tropical fruit beer is no lightweight. The alcohol level puts it in the same general territory as several of Brouwerij Huyghe’s best-known strong Belgian ales, while the addition of tropical fruit suggests a much more fruit-forward drinking experience.
The tropical fruit component is particularly intriguing. The label does not identify the individual fruits, so there are still plenty of questions surrounding the eventual tasting profile. Will the beer emphasize bright citrus, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, or a broader tropical fruit character? Those tasting details will be something to watch as the U.S. release gets closer.
The 11.2-ounce bottle is another important part of the package. Rather than moving Delirium Tropicalum into a large-format bottle, Brouwerij Huyghe is using a compact serving size that makes sense for a strong 8.5% ABV Belgian beer. The label also confirms that the beer is brewed and bottled by Brouwerij Huyghe in Melle/Ghent, Belgium, with U.S. importing handled by BBL, Inc. of Frederick, Maryland.
Delirium Tropicalum also arrives with considerable brewing heritage behind it. Brouwerij Huyghe traces brewing activity at the Appelhoek site in Melle to 1654, while Leon Huyghe arrived in Melle in 1902 and purchased the brewery in 1906. The brewery’s modern Delirium story began on December 26, 1988, when Delirium Tremens was first brewed.
The original Delirium Tremens is itself an 8.5% Belgian blonde ale, so the alcohol level of Delirium Tropicalum is particularly interesting. The major difference is the tropical fruit direction of this new release.
For American craft beer fans, Delirium Tropicalum could become an especially interesting new Belgian import. It combines the international recognition of the Delirium brand with tropical fruit flavors and a strong Belgian Blond base, creating a beer that should appeal to drinkers who enjoy fruit-forward Belgian ales.
For now, U.S. release timing and tasting notes are still to come. Stay tuned to MyBeerBuzz.com for more information on when Delirium Tropicalum begins arriving in the United States.

About Brouwerij Huyghe:
Exploring Delirium Tropicalum and Its Unique Characteristics:
Brouwerij Huyghe is one of Belgium’s most recognizable independent brewing names and the brewery behind the internationally famous Delirium beer brand. Located in Melle, Belgium, near Ghent, Brewery Huyghe has a documented brewing history stretching back to 1654. The brewery’s long history, Belgian brewing traditions and internationally distributed specialty beers have made Huyghe an important name in Belgian beer.
The modern Huyghe story began when Leon Huyghe arrived in Melle in 1902. Four years later, he purchased the local brewery and renamed it Brouwerij-Mouterij den Appel. A new brewery complex was constructed in the 1930s and completed in 1939, with the historic brewing hall remaining an important part of the brewery’s identity.
The biggest turning point in the company’s modern history came in 1988 with the creation of Delirium Tremens. First brewed on December 26, 1988, Delirium Tremens quickly became the brewery’s flagship beer. Huyghe says the beer’s distinctive character comes partly from the use of three different yeast strains, while its iconic bottle and pink elephant branding helped establish Delirium as one of the world’s most recognizable Belgian beer brands.
Delirium Tremens is an 8.5% ABV Belgian strong blonde ale available in multiple formats. The brewery describes it as pale blond with fine carbonation, a slightly malty and spicy aroma, a rounded flavor and a dry, bitter finish. Its distinctive brewing profile and packaging helped make Delirium Tremens a global specialty beer.
Over the years, Brouwerij Huyghe has expanded far beyond Delirium Tremens. Its portfolio includes Delirium Red, Delirium Nocturnum, Delirium Christmas, Delirium Argentum, Deliria, Delirium Black and Delirium Blond, along with other beer brands brewed at Huyghe.
That portfolio demonstrates the brewery’s willingness to explore different Belgian beer styles and flavor profiles. Delirium Tropicalum, with its Belgian Blond foundation and tropical fruit character, fits naturally into that broader strategy while offering something different from the traditional Delirium beers.
Brouwerij Huyghe has also built a substantial international presence. In a recent company announcement, Huyghe said its portfolio included 14 brands and 41 beer styles, with Delirium and Averbode among its most successful brands. The brewery reported that 83% of its 2023 turnover came from exports to more than 100 countries.
Sustainability has become another major focus for the brewery. Huyghe announced a €50 million investment plan designed to support growth, sustainability and beer tourism, including development of a Delirium Experience Center dedicated to the brewery’s history and Belgian beer culture.
The brewery continues to earn international recognition as well. In 2026, Brewery Huyghe was named Best Brewery 2026 – Belgium at the Frankfurt International Tasting Competition, while Delirium Tremens earned Double Gold and Delirium Christmas and Delirio earned Gold at the London Beer Competition.
Today, Brouwerij Huyghe combines centuries of Belgian brewing heritage with modern innovation and global distribution. Delirium Tropicalum is a strong example of that approach: an 8.5% Belgian Blond ale enhanced with tropical fruits and packaged in an 11.2-ounce bottle for the U.S. market. As this new Delirium beer arrives in America, it adds another colorful chapter to the remarkable story of the brewery behind the pink elephant.
