Former Stone Brewer Rod Burguiere Joins Excel Brewery

Alton, Ill., native Rod Burguiere has returned to the St. Louis area to serve as assistant brewmaster at the recently launched Excel Brewery in Breese, Ill. 

Burguiere, who formerly worked for California’s Stone Brewing Co. (said to be the 11th largest craft brewery in the United States), brings eight years of craft-beer experience to his new position. 

According to a press release issued today from Excel, Burguiere joined the Navy in 2003 and landed in California among the rising craft beer scene. He began home brewing to recreate the types of beers that he was trying which quickly made him forgo his plan of pharmacy school and led him to a career brewing for Bootlegger’s Brewery and later Stone Brewery.
