Brewery Vivant is a Grand Rapids, Michigan brewpub inspired by Belgian and French farmhouse breweries, known for its European-inspired beers, food, and unique setting in a refurbished funeral home. The brewery was founded by the Spaulding family and is committed to sustainability and using local ingredients. In addition to craft beer, it also produces spirits and offers a menu that highlights culinary creativity and locally sourced ingredients.
Location and history:
Located in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids, the brewery is housed in a historic building that was once the chapel of the Metcalf Funeral Home. The Spaulding family bought the buildings in 2010 and opened the brewery in 2012.
Brewing style:
The brewery’s name, “Vivant,” is a nod to the French term “bon vivant,” meaning “the good life,” and its beers are inspired by the farmhouse breweries of Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. The brewery was one of the first in Michigan to can its beer.
