For now, the Howards are focused on demolition of the parking lot near their building and getting started on the rest of the construction process.
Mike, previously the main brewer at Blacksmith Brewing Co. in Stevensville, will be the master brewer at Great Burn.
Work to open Great Burn – the first brewery to call Missoula’s southside home – has been almost entirely a family affair.
Great Burn will pay tribute to Chad Howard, the middle Howard brother and longtime wildland firefighter who died of cancer in 2009.
“He was always kind of craft beer enthusiast, he got Mike and I into it,” Howard said. “Part of this is kind of trying to live out Chad’s dream a little.”
The space will feature a family-friendly taproom with plenty of seating space.
