Ommegang Renames Art Of Darkness To “Soothsayer”

In the blur that was the first six weeks of the year, you may have spotted a new limited edition Ommegang beer on the shelves and on tap. A few weeks ago, Soothsayer made its debut, or more correctly, it’s return, to market. Soothsayer is actually the same recipe as Art of Darkness. We gave our popular Belgian-style dark ale a new name and look for the new year.

Why? Because Art of Darkness sounds an awful lot like another delicious and popular beer by another well-loved and respected Bruery. And their beer came first.

Our Soothsayer is brewed with a variety of barley malts, wheat malts, flaked oats and dextrose, and hopped with Spalter Select and Styrian Golding. We use our signature house yeast is used in both primary and secondary fermentation. In the glass you’ll see a deep brown hue with a fluffy tan head that produces beautiful lacing. Enjoy the aromas of  licorice and chocolate and the sweet malty taste with earthy notes plus coffee, chocolate, and anise. Soothsayer has a smooth mouthfeel, a full body, and soft carbonation. The 8.9% ABV is well-hidden and the finish is long and a touch sweet.

Soothsayer pairs well with an open mind. And also with rich cheese, chocolate or dark-fruit desserts. It’s also an excellent after-dinner drink. Enjoy at 50 degrees and let it warm up for a bit more flavor and aroma. Soothsayer is available both on draft and in 750ml bottles.

This beer is delicious fresh, and will be equally delicious a few years from now so you may want to grab an extra bottle to cellar for a special occasion.
