Narragansett Beer Partners With Bananagrams

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (August 3, 2016) – Games and beer go together like peanut butter and banana or like bacon and… more bacon. That’s why Narragansett Beer and Bananagrams are teaming up for Hi-Neighbor! Have a Hefeweizen! as the latest collaboration in ‘Gansett’s “Hi Neighbor Mash-Up” Series. 

Ten years ago, Rhode Island native Abraham Nathanson was looking for a faster-paced tile word game to play, and at the young age of 76, he and his family created Bananagrams at their home in Narragansett, Rhode Island.

“When we heard that our neighbors at Bananagrams were turning 10 this year, we wanted to help them celebrate,” said Mark Hellendrung, President of Narragansett Beer. “Like ‘Gansett, Bananagrams is meant to be shared over good times with family and friends. If I’m gonna keep coming in last while playing games on vacation, at least this beer will take the sting out of it.”

The sentiment of neighborly love and Ocean State pride is similar for Rena Nathanson, President and Top Banana at Bananagrams Inc.

“Rhode Island holds a special place in our hearts as the game was invented at our house in Narragansett, and my father, Abe, loved to have fun and lived to get a laugh from whoever was around,” said Nathanson. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our 10^th Bananaversary and a decade of laughter, wordplay and silliness than sharing a toast with our neighbors at ‘Gansett, another Rhode Island classic.”  

Staying true to more than 125 years of German-American heritage, Narragansett’s Hi-Neighbor! Have a Hefeweizen!brings German tradition together with a little American flare. It’s brewed with 40% wheat malt and left unfiltered to give it the complex, yeast-driven notes of banana and clove which creates a hefeweizen that’s true to style. At the finish, the new American craft hop, El Dorado, gives the beer a slight orange aroma to round things out.
