I’ll admit that there’s something inherently cool about sampling pre-release plain-labeled beers.  I’m not sure if it’s the early peek my taste buds are getting, or just knowing you’re in the company of the very few people who have tasted the beer already…OR more likely it’s how excited I am knowing how much you’ll like this beer when you get to sample it.

This is the Samuel Adams / Flounder Brewing collaboration and it is the culmination of the year-long Samuel Adams Brewing The American Dream Brewing and Business Experienceship.  The beer is named Devil’s Nectah and yes you need to crank up your best Boston accent to pronounce it correctly.

This beer was created by the brewers at Samuel Adams and Jeremy “Flounder” Lees from New Jersey’s Flounder Brewing.  Devil’s Nectah uses local ingredients respective to each brewer:  Jersey fresh honey and Massachusetts cranberries…and you can’t miss the contribution they both make to the overall beer.

This Cranberry Honey Lager opens with some slightly sweet and biscuit-y aromas with just a touch of fruit.  The beer has a really nice combination of tart cranberry flavors and soft honey sweetness.  The balance is nice and the dull honey sweetness really plays well with the tart cranberry flavors and the bright and drinkable finish.  This lager hits 5.2%-AbV (these bottles say 5%-AbV) and we found it to be really drinkable and refreshing….and of course pretty unique.

Devil’s Nectah will be hitting distribution this week on draft only in select bars and restaurants in the New Jersey and Philadelphia area as well as the Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston.  The full list of bars is here, so be sure to get out there and try this beer for yourself
