From Two Roads:
Gold for Hexotic Tropical Lambic in Belgian Style Lambic/Sour Category
Two Roads Brewing Company is thrilled to announce its Hexotic brand has won the gold medal in the Belgian Style Lambic or Sour Ale category at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). The GABF is held each year in Denver, CO and is the premier beer festival and competition in America featuring 1752 breweries that entered a record 7,227 beers.
Hexotic was a long time in the making having spent 2½ years in oak barrels. Over that period, six different tropical fruits were added at different stages. Orange, mango, guava, guanabana, passion fruit and mangosteen were used. A very slow but complex transformation occurred over time and the beer was finally released in November 2015.
“To receive a medal for one of our barrel-aged sour beers is especially rewarding," said Master Brewer Phil Markowski. "These are highly complex beers that require nurturing over a long period of time. They say ‘good things come to those who wait.’"
