After spending a week fighting against the blizzard of 2017 and enjoying an unexpected 4-day vacation from work and I can’t help being reminded of the statement made in the PR about today’s beer, “

Some of the best vacation days are unplanned – snow days, being a tourist in your own town, or a spontaneous day trip.”  And since today IS actually a snow day, what better beer to sample.

Highland Brewing Daycation IPA was released on March 6th, but more importantly it’s going year-round.  Available now in 12oz bottles with 12oz cans coming this summer, this sessionable IPA is the perfect punctuation mark to Highland Brewing’s (and Hollie Stephenson’s) recent IPA’s (Highland IPA, King MacAlpin DIPA, and Mandarina IPA).

Daycation IPA uses six different malts as well as Azaca, El Dorado and Mosaic hops to balance out the mix and the 4.9%-AbV is perfect for our mid-day snow-day sampling…so off we go. 

Daycation pours a bright golden color with lots of peach, apricot and lemon in the nose.  We really liked the complexity of the aromas and I was excited to see that layering extend to the flavors.  Daycation leads with some really nice tropical fruit and grassy flavors, but the mouthfeel may be the real star of the show.  This beer has a really robust body that belies the lightness of the AbV.  We really liked how that contributed to the balance of the beer and the enjoyment of the beer.  You won’t think you’re drinking a session IPA with this mouthfeel, and I think that’s really important in this style.  Of course Daycation also has the really nice apricot, pineapple, citrus and tropical fruit flavors you’d expect in an IPA with a really drinkable character that will make you want to drink more and more.

I’m excited to see Daycation IPA heading to cans, but don’t wait for the cans to try it out for yourself.  Get out there and get a 12oz bottle (or six 12oz bottles) of Highland Brewing Daycation IPA…and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
