Ten years in, Ventura-based brewery expands its hoppy offerings and core products with strategic line additions and crowd pleasers

A new clear, modern IPA joins Topa Topa Brewing Co.’s year-round product lineup and distribution footprint with the release of 19.2 oz cans of Weekender West Coast IPA. This addition brings their year-round core product count up to eight packaged offerings, led by Chief Peak IPA, Topa Topa’s flagship beer that has become a regional icon since 2015.

Die-hard Topa fans may remember a Weekender 6-pack from the past, but this time it’s back in a very tall can as a bright, hop-forward 7.2% ABV IPA boasting massive aroma, clean bitterness, and a dry finish. Over the past 18 months, Director of Brewing Operations Graham Strong developed five modern IPA pilot recipes and tested them on draft at all five Topa Taprooms to gain insight into regional consumer preferences.

After trialing and dialing to resounding customer delight, Strong landed on a hop blend of Mosaic, Crystal, Dyna Boost Mosaic, Ekuanot, Citra, Krush and Cryo Mosaic to pit against a grain bill of Pilsner Malt, 2-Row and White Wheat for his final recipe. “I think of this beer as very much a Southern California West Coast IPA,” shares Strong. “It departs from Chief Peak’s piney, dank flavor notes while showcasing hops with more fruit-forward aromatics. The finish is nice and dry, balancing those nectarous hop notes with the classic bitter bite of a West Coast IPA.”

The decision to add a second year-round IPA alongside Chief Peak seemed a natural progression in the brewery’s 10th year. Over the past decade, technological advancements in craft brewing equipment, ingredients, packaging, and processes have enabled new possibilities in recipe development and execution, allowing for broadened variety and nuances within the IPA style itself.

This is their second year-round product addition for 2025, and one of many new hoppy releases this year. Sunburst White Ale joined the year-round lineup in 6-packs in January, and two new rotational series hit distribution, including the Solitude IPA mixed 6-pack, featuring three different single hop IPAs, and the Good Good Hazy series of quarterly 19.2 oz cans. This series partners with a fellow 1% for the Planet member every quarter, giving money back to their cause and hosting volunteerism opportunities to help make a tangible impact. Good Good is now in its third iteration, with one more new hazy IPA releasing in October in collaboration with the Ventura Land Trust. Past partners include the Channel Islands Park Foundation, Runners for Public Lands, and Heal the Ocean.

Before 2025 comes to a close, a hoppy collaboration with Los Angeles-based Monkish Brewing will hit all Topa Taprooms and distribution in extremely limited supply, and a coffee double IPA made with San Luis Obispo’s Field Day Coffee will release at taprooms only in 16 oz. 4-packs. Other hoppy annual specialties to watch for include Blue Heaven IPA, which swings around for the MLB season, and Ojai Pixie IPA, a very small release that arrives with each year’s local pixie harvest, using the eponymous citrus zest in the recipe. The new year will bring strategic evolutions to Weekender’s packaging format, as the beer continues to demonstrate its strength as a regional winner. For those traveling for a long weekend in Southern California in 2026, keep in mind that Weekender will be available on draft at both Disney’s California Adventure and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

This September, fans can join the Topa Topa team at their Ventura HQ & Brewery to celebrate this release and its spirit of adventure at Ventura’s first Overland & Off-Road Swap Meet in partnership with Eezy Supplies. Weekender draft and cans will be available as the location becomes an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise with 30+ vendors offering gear swaps, demos, special sales, and a limited glassware offering for the first fans in attendance. The event takes place at 4880 Colt St. on September 14 from 12-5 PM.

Weekender IPA is available right now across Southern California at Whole Foods Market, Vons, Alberstons, Bristol Farms, Lazy Acres. Ventura locals can find it at all Topa Taprooms, as well as the Ventura Music Hall. Check Topa’s website to use their beer finder to find it near you.
