Jester King seeking new ownership after 16 years in Texas

Jester King Brewery is seeking new ownership after 16 years of building one of Texas‘ most recognizable farmhouse brewing destinations, a move that could bring significant changes to the Austin craft beer institution without ending the operation that made it famous. Co-founders Jeff and Michael announced their decision to pursue a new owner as Jester King enters its 17th year, explaining that the brewery needs a stronger financial foundation to support its future. The Texas Hill Country brewery, known for its farmhouse ales, mixed-culture fermentation, ranch setting, pizzeria, and agricultural roots, remains open and operating normally while the founders explore a potential sale.

As Jester King seeking new ownership continues to circulate, the community remains hopeful for a positive transition.

This transition comes as Jester King seeking new ownership aims to enhance its sustainability and community engagement.

This isn’t a closure. The distinction matters, particularly at a time when independent craft breweries across the country continue dealing with changing consumer habits, tighter operating margins, and the financial demands of running businesses that have grown well beyond traditional beer production. Jester King seeking new ownership represents a potential transition for a brewery that helped introduce American craft beer drinkers to a different approach to farmhouse brewing, one built around local ingredients, fermentation, and a connection between the beer and the place where it was produced. Not simply another brewery changing hands.

In the context of Jester King seeking new ownership, the founders express hope for a new vision that aligns with their values.

As we navigate through Jester King seeking new ownership, we reflect on the brewery’s rich history and future possibilities.

As fans of craft beer, we remain excited and hopeful during this period of Jester King seeking new ownership.

The Jester King seeking new ownership announcement also reflects how much the business has changed since its founders began developing the brewery on a ranch outside Austin. What started as an effort to pursue old-world farmhouse brewing traditions has expanded into a destination combining craft beer, food, farming, hospitality, and community events.

Jester King has also established its own self-distribution operation and expanded into pure-culture craft beer styles alongside the farmhouse ales that helped establish its reputation. Finding a new owner who can preserve that identity while providing the financial resources needed for continued growth is now the priority, and the founders have made it clear that they want Jester King’s next chapter to build on its history rather than simply recreate it.

In the following announcement, Jester King co-founders Jeff and Michael explain their decision to seek new ownership, what the potential sale means for the Texas Hill Country brewery, why Jester King remains open for business, and how interested buyers can begin a conversation about acquiring the brewery.

As Jester King marks 16 years in business, we’ve decided to seek new ownership to lead us forward.

Michael and I began building Jester King when we were 28 and 24. We set out to pursue old-world farmhouse brewing traditions on a ranch on the edge of Austin. Our goal was to make farmhouse ale tied to a time, place, and people. We never imagined it would evolve into the brewery, pizzeria, farm, and community gathering place it is today. The brewery has continued to evolve this decade, creating a self-distribution team and expanding into pure-culture craft beer styles. We’re lucky to have had and continue to have extraordinarily talented, hard-working people who make it all possible.

As we enter our 17th year, Michael and I recognize that Jester King needs a stronger financial foundation to realize its potential. There is a great deal worth preserving here, and we believe the right owner could build on what our team and community have created. We’re not looking to erase what makes Jester King special, and we don’t believe its future should be limited to recreating its past. We want to see it evolve with the same curiosity, intention, and care that brought us here in the first place.

To be clear, this is not a closure announcement. Jester King remains open as usual and a welcoming place for friends and family to enjoy good times in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

If you or someone you know might be interested in acquiring Jester King, we’d welcome a conversation. Please reach out to us at [email protected]

To everyone who has been part of Jester King over these 16 years, whether you’ve worked here, shared our beer, visited the ranch, or simply believed in what we’re doing: thank you. We’re proud of what we’ve built together, and we believe there’s a great deal still worth building.

Jester King Brewery is an independent Texas craft brewery located on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country outside Austin. Founded in 2010 by Jeffrey Stuffings and Michael Stewart, Jester King established its reputation through farmhouse ales, mixed-culture fermentation, spontaneous fermentation, barrel-aged beer, and an approach to brewing that emphasizes the relationship between ingredients, location, fermentation, and the finished beer.

What began as a relatively small farmhouse brewing project eventually developed into one of the most recognizable destinations in Texas craft beer. The brewery combines traditional brewing practices with an operating farm, pizzeria, hospitality spaces, and a community-focused ranch experience.

Jester King’s original brewing philosophy drew heavily from old-world farmhouse beer traditions, particularly the Belgian approach to producing expressive, highly attenuated ales. Rather than relying exclusively on conventional brewing yeast and tightly standardized fermentation profiles, the brewery explored how different microorganisms, ingredients, and maturation techniques could create beers with distinctive characteristics.

Mixed-culture fermentation became central to the Jester King identity. By working with combinations of yeast and bacteria, the brewery developed farmhouse ales that could express acidity, fruit character, earthy notes, and complex fermentation profiles. Barrel aging and blending added another dimension, allowing younger beers and mature beers to contribute different characteristics to a finished release.

Jester King also became known for its work with spontaneous fermentation, an approach that exposes cooled wort to naturally occurring microorganisms before fermentation and extended maturation. Its brewing program has included coolship beers, oak-aged wild ales, bottle-conditioned farmhouse ales, and experimental releases featuring fruits, herbs, and other agricultural ingredients.

The connection between beer and agriculture remains an important part of the brewery’s identity. Jester King has emphasized Texas-grown ingredients and the influence of its surroundings, seeking to produce beers that reflect the place where they are created rather than simply reproduce established commercial styles.

Visitors experience that philosophy firsthand at the Jester King ranch. The property offers considerably more than a conventional brewery tasting room, bringing together craft beer, food, outdoor gathering spaces, and agricultural activities in a setting that has become a destination for Austin residents and Texas craft beer travelers.

The Jester King pizzeria and farm have helped expand the business beyond beer production, giving visitors additional reasons to spend time at the property. Its events, special beer releases, anniversary celebrations, and community gatherings have also contributed to the brewery’s reputation as a gathering place.

Although Jester King built its early following around farmhouse ales and wild fermentation, its beer portfolio has continued to evolve.

The brewery has expanded into pure-culture craft beer styles, including IPAs, pilsners, and other approachable releases. This broader approach allows Jester King to serve drinkers interested in traditional farmhouse beer while reaching customers who prefer more familiar contemporary craft beer styles.

Its development of an internal self-distribution team represents another significant change in how the Austin brewery operates and brings its beer to market.

Jester King seeking new ownership

In October 2026, Jester King announced that its founders were seeking new ownership after 16 years in business. Jeff and Michael explained that the brewery needs a stronger financial foundation to support its future while preserving the distinctive character developed by its employees, customers, and surrounding community.

The announcement did not signal a brewery closure. Jester King stated that its operations would continue as usual while the founders explored potential acquisition opportunities.

For prospective owners, the business represents an established Texas craft beer brand with a distinctive brewing history, an existing hospitality operation, and a strong connection to the Austin beer community.

For craft beer enthusiasts, Jester King remains closely associated with farmhouse brewing, creative fermentation, Texas agriculture, and the idea that a brewery can become something larger than a place where beer is manufactured.

Its next ownership chapter has yet to be determined, but the brewery’s stated intention is clear: preserve what makes Jester King recognizable while allowing the business to continue growing and changing.
