Twang, a San Antonio-based Latino-owned beer salt company, is celebrating its 37th anniversary with some exciting news. Twang has been named the Official Beer Salt of Fiesta® San Antonio for the second year in a row, solidifying its place as an intrinsic part of the culture of San Antonio and Texas. Additionally, Twang’s Michelada Cocktail mixes and rimming salts recently won Platinum, Gold, and Silver this year at The Drunken Tomato Awards and continue to expand their distribution across the country.

San Antonio’s Fiesta® is a beloved city-wide celebration that has been commemorating the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto since 1891. Today, 132 years later, South Texans are still honoring this tradition. So it’s only fitting that they’ve partnered with Twang, one of the most iconic brands in the state. Much like Fiesta, Twang is beloved by Texans with roots that run deep in San Antonio and is synonymous with a good time! The founding event that started it all, the Battle of Flowers Parade is the only parade in the country to be planned and directed entirely by women. Similarly, although not wholly directed by women, Latinas hold many of Twang’s top C-suite positions. For example, Tracy Watson is the Chief Operating Officer, Alicia Diaz-Blevins is the Chief Financial Officer, and Elysia Treviño Gonzales is the Chief Executive Officer, President at Twang Partners, and the founder’s daughter.

Twang secured four awards at The Drunken Tomato Awards this year! Judged by eight experts with over 70 submissions, they earned a “Rim Salt” Platinum Medal for their Twang Reserve Pickle Rimming Salt and a “Rim Salt” Gold Medal for their Twang Reserve Michelada Rimming Salt. Not only that, but they also received the “Michelada” Gold Medal for their Twang Reserve Pickle Michelada Cocktail Mix and a Silver Medal in the “Hot & Spicy” category for their Twang Reserve Spicy Michelada Cocktail Mix.

In late 2022, Twang expanded into the Southern California market with its top-selling beer salts, michelada mixes, and more. Seeing the success of expanding outside the company’s Texas roots, Twang plans to continue the expansion across the country to share their modern take on this long-standing tradition in Mexico.

Twang was launched in 1986 by Roger Treviño, who left his career to embark on a journey in the food industry. Inspired by a business trip to Mexico, he created a variety of flavored salts to share with friends and family. His first product and claim to fame was beer salt, which has since become a common practice for people all over the United States to dress their beers. Twang has expanded into flavored salt for food and drinks, cocktail rimmer blends, michelada mix, and more.
