Troegs – Splinter & Nugget

Just a few nuggets of info from Troegs.  The guys will be brewing a small batch of Nugget Nectar for several big festivals.  Much of the beer will be racked into casks & firkins BUT a VERY limited amount will be bottled into 22oz bottles and be available at the brewery.  Get thee to Harrisburg!

Java Head Stout will be released Aug 25th and Dead Reckoning Porter has been released.

JavaHead Stout contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout.  After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans – akin to a French press – intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

JavaHead will only be packaged in 22oz. bottles on August 25th and will be available throughout our normal distribution.

Ed has also been nice enough to confirm the new Splinter Beer series (matured in wood).  As I reported earlier, the first two releases will have 300 bottles and 200 bottles for all of the following releases.  The TTB label approvals are very colorful and include Black, Blue, Gold & Red.  Also as I reported earlier, look for barrel versions of Mad Elf (Red perhaps), their Tripel (aged in wine barrels for 2 years w/Brett yeast)recipe used in Scratch 3 (perhaps Gold) and perhaps an imperial stout as “black”…it’s anyone’s best guess what Blue will be.
