Here’s a new big bottle coming to the Scientific Series from Surf brewery in Ventura, CA. This is B-01: American Oatmeal Stout and it is aged in Belle Meade Bourbon barrels. This beer hits 8%-AbV and it will be packaged in 750ml bottles. We also have Scientific Series Belgian-style Tripel Ale brewed with orange flower honey and blood orange peel (age din French oak, 10.5%-AbV) and Winter Hood Barleywine (22oz bottle, 8.2%-AbV & 15 IBU).

Surf Brewery, a small craft brewery, open since 2011, with an onsite tasting room and homebrew shop, and only Southern California distribution, announced they are releasing their third barrel aged beer on October 13, under the Scientific Series™ label. The initial two both won gold medals at the Los Angeles International Beer Competition in 2014 & 2015.
This Scientific Series offering combines brewing tradition with experimentation. A Belgian style tripel with a twist… Local orange flower honey and blood orange zest were added to this golden brew instead of the traditional Belgian candi sugar to increase the alcohol content of the beer while building delicate nuanced aromas and subtle citrus flavor overtones. Lastly, the honey gave this brew aging potential so the beer spent over a year in French oak wine barrels to further develop the type of character that only barrel aging can elicit. Enjoy this unique libation poured carefully into a stemmed glass at 45°-50°F.

Doug Mason, co-founder, and heading up the Scientific Series barrel program, mentions, “This is a fantastic tasting beer, with a lot of flavor nuances brought out by the initial recipe and enhanced during the barrel aging process. Although we just recently obtained our duplicate alcohol license for our new barrel warehouse in Ventura, this one came out of our barrel aging work in the Moorpark warehouse. We have two more in the Series coming out in 2015; a bourbon barrel aged American oatmeal stout and also, more of our award winning Merlot barrel-aged porter. 2016 will mark a growth process four our barrel program, brewing more beers for aging and getting more creative.” 
We also have C-02 Blonde Ale aged in French oak Rose barrels and dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin (7.5%-AbV, 18 IBU). and D-01 Belgian-style dark quad age din French oak barrels with wild brettanomyces (9.5%-AbV).
