Sierra Nevada & Patagonia Collaborate On Kernza Beer

Brewing lager with long-lasting Kernza^®

Tomorrow (6/29) in our Chico Taproom we’ll start pouring the (very) small-batch Kernza^® Lager, a Munich Dunkel made in partnership with Patagonia Provisions. And if you aren’t near Chico, there’s still hope: We’re one of 11 participating craft breweries around the country, each one releasing their own unique lager-style beer!

It’s the start of Patagonia Provisions’ A Good Grain Collaborative, focused on organic ingredients that help fight the climate crisis. First up are beers that feature Regenerative Organic Certified^® Kernza, a perennial grain whose roots can grow up to 12 feet deep with equally huge benefits — build topsoil, improve water quality, and prevent erosion.

Our own Estate agriculture also goes toward the Sierra Nevada Kernza Lager. Two homegrown malts, Munich and 2-row Pale, contribute to the beer’s toasty and chocolaty flavors, while the yeast and hops impart hints of fruit and spice (5.1% ABV). On tap this Thursday, exclusively at our Chico brewery!*
